Antikean

General Description

The term "Anitkean" is used to refer to a group of people who built structures dating back well over four thousand years ago, before the earliest known records. Their architectural style is highly recognizable, characterized by intricate bestial and sometimes monstrous patterns woven into their stonework. Antikean ruins are shrouded in mystery and allure, countless legends and folklore have captured the imagination of many, becoming a favourite subject of many bards and storytellers.

History

Antikean ruins, dating back over six thousand years, predate anything else in the world by two millennia. The ruins showcase strong ties to nature and creatures, prominent in their stonework designs. Runic markings have been found but remain undeciphered, even by highly intelligent mages and historians.   Researchers and scholars have dedicated much time and resources to unravelling the secrets hidden within these structures but especially the runic markings. Various theories and hypotheses have been proposed, but without any definitive breakthroughs, the true purpose and message of the runes remain elusive.

Architecture

In addition to incorporating various creatures into their architecture, the rest of the structures are often adorned with repeating geometric patterns, filling the empty spaces. Interestingly, the choice of geometric designs appears to differ significantly from region to region and lacks uniformity. The majority of the structures within Antikean ruins were constructed using massive stone slabs, yet the methods they employed to transport these stones remain a perplexing and unsolved mystery.   Certain ruins prominently showcase Draconic motifs, while others do not feature them at all. Furthermore, some ancient sites boast mosaic-like statues constructed from thousands of smaller stones, bonded together by an unknown substance.
