Ethernum

General Description

A peculiar substance found in the Ethereal Plane near sites of intense energy storms. Widely sought after as a collector's item by wealthy individuals or organizations, these stones can fetch thousands at auctions. Recently an exciting new development by a well-established artificer has managed to use such a stone to channel a great amount of power with further experiments looking promising.

History & Legends

The earliest recorded instance of this substance dates back to 1347 when Countess Exarna Hewardson documented her research expedition into the ethereal realm to study the supernatural activities of spectral beings. During the expedition, the team witnessed a freak storm-like event after encountering a powerful entity. This event caused a vibrant violet lightning strike to hit a nearby patch of sand and dirt, leaving a strange mesmerising purple material in its place. The team transported the material back to the material plane, where the countess had it skillfully crafted into an exquisite necklace, coining the name Ethernum for the stone.   Over the years, numerous fragments of Ethernum have found their way to the material plane, often becoming incorporated into precious artwork, valuable treasures, or charming trinkets to augment their worth. The allure of these legendary ghostly stones has only grown stronger, fueling their desirability. Bards have spun tales of various magical powers attributed to these stones, further enhancing their mystique and capturing the imagination of listeners.   One particularly famous account revolves around the pirate Garangoor, who reputedly adorned himself with an Ethurnum crown. According to legend, this crown bestowed upon him the ability to communicate with and exert control over spirits, effectively enlisting their assistance during his battles.

Recent Developments

Oretaga Barishmoss, an alchemist affiliated with The Dractonian Empire, has recently made bold claims about uncovering a method to utilize this material for generating substantial power. However, as of now, there is still no established means of controlling this power effectively.
