General Description
A collection of stalagmite-like needles of rock that extrude from the land on a southern island of Aardragoon. They vary in thickness and height quite substantially, some as small as needles and some as large as towers.
Location
These needles occur around the coast, both in the sea and on the land as well as sticking out of the rocks and some of the largest sprouting directly out of the clifftops forming great spires that can be seen from miles away. There are some tight clusters, especially of the smaller ones but the larger ones are more spread out from each other.
One of the largest and most central needles has been repurposed as a beacon to keep ships clear of the rocky dangers below. This lighthouse is maintained and operated by a community in a local fishing village.
History & Legends
It is apparent that these needles have not always been here, there is no mention of them in any literature that references the area before the year 3807 when they are first mentioned in a travel log.
One of the most popular legends theorizes two powerful gargantuan earth elemental fought each other and created these needles as a by-product of their battle. Some say they rest beneath the island, gathering power and waiting for another opportunity to do battle once more.
Culture
As well as one of the central pillars being used as a beacon, some have been repurposed for other uses. At least two have been carved out and built upon as watch towers, some used as anchors for bridges and walkways and whole villages have been built around them.
It is expressly forbidden to take or damage these rocks although a select few shards and pieces may be purchased from nearby villages.
