Spiderblight
Purple dye is a rare and valuable commodity that is only sourced from very few places on Naru. One of these sources are created using the webs of the amethyst spider, found primarily in the Mox Woodland in southeast Rayas. These spiders take on this name due to their purple-toned skin and webbing, crystal like patches on their skin and crystalline lairs.
Gathering these webs is an incredibly specialized skill but even the most skilled can be surprised or ambushed by these creatures that prove to have an interesting toxin alongside their bite. Those bitten have a chance to become afflicted with a condition known as spiderblight.
Spiderblight manifests slowly so those who are bitten rarely know if they are infected until days later. The first symptoms to usually appear are rashes on the skin that develop into dry, tough patches of cracked purple-tinged skin. This is followed by their eyes becoming slightly tinged towards a purple hue, sometimes the first symptom noticed by the infected individual. The longer a person is infected with this disease, the more their personality changes towards hostility and anger.
Those who sustain multiple bites from these creatures find their symptoms elevated and much more serious and prominent. In extreme cases all remnants of their natural skin are replaced by the purple rash, their eyes turn a deep and solid purple and they become quick to rage and often violent at the slightest misfortune. The targets are often unaware of their actions in such a state and this as well as the physical symptoms has led to those with it facing abandonment and distrust.
There is no known cure for this affliction yet although many have dedicated a portion or even most of their lives to trying to come up with the aforementioned cure.
