The Dark Tide
General Description
A pirate faction that currently holds influence and control over Roth Island and all those who live there. The Dark Tide has been in power here for almost a century and is the most prominent and largest of the local warring factions.Leaders
There have only been two leaders of the Dark Tide, the founder Vortac and their successor Gretch Ohara. Vortac was a ferocious black skinned Tiefling with sharp grey horns used for goring his enemies. He lead the Dark Tide for over 50 years until he was succeeded by his second in command. Gretch is a Githyanki warrior, who quickly proved herself among the ranks, assuming leadership positions and leading large numbers of vessels into battle. She remains the fearless leader of the Dark Tide today and can usually be found in Zimroth or on her boat The Deathknell.History
The organization was founded by a man who came from slavery, staged a rebellion which lead to the destruction of his home village and ultimately went on to become a much more deadly force than those he fought before him. Originally known as just 'The Tides' Vortac amassed quite the following, 'freeing' those in slavery by entering them into his employ, before decades later setting his sights on Roth Island. It is widely believed that Vortac made a deal with an otherwordly being to give him the upper hand, all of his ships were shrouded in shadow and strange ghostly entities would join him in battle. It was at this time that the 'Dark Tide' name was adopted and brought fear to those who heard the name or saw the blackened ships. After eventually succeeding in taking the island, Vortac mysteriously disappeared and his remains were never found, his second in command (Gretch) assumed the leadership role and built most of the ships, defences and enterprise they have today. The Flag
Almost always painted on material dyed black with Oonasa Ink, this flag is split into four sections by crisscrossing lines forming an 'x' shape and at the end of these strands are often blades, fists or skulls. In the centre, there is usually space for a figurehead that either depicts their leader or a symbol of a particular ship or captain. In the spaces there are quite often crossed weapons or eyes to suggest that they are always watching, sometimes these symbols are changed for something that serves are more unique purpose. The Code
There are a set of rules that those within the Dark Tide follow, and another for those on Roth Island to follow in their service to them. It speaks of honour and loyalty, with those who betray them sentenced to death, and those who flee in battle have their families meet terrible fates. The code keeps people in line and fighting for the cause until their very end.
