Warning Fires
The Black Forest is an ever-present threat to the world of Nascindor and should the Seekers and their allies ever fail in containing its horrid denizens, several early warning systems have been devised to let the city-states know that the first line of defense has fallen. An example of these are the warning fires housed in towers dotted across Nascindor in regions of high elevation.
Should all of this fail and the border of the forest is breached in a meaningful manner, then and only then are the warning fires located at the headquarters of each fellowship lit. The lookouts in further towers will spy the flames and light their own fires. This chain of events continues all the way to Glarithia, where the great brazier at the steps leading up to the Everlasting Edifice is lit and the church of Resounding Truth issues a decree that all able hands must take up arms.
After this, it became clear that the forest's containment efforts needed to be redoubled, and the church has been training more and more Seekers with each passing year.
System
When a Seeker fellowship feels its forces are inadequate in containing their part of the Black Forest's border, they first petition for reinforcements from the other fellowships. If these reinforcements are not sufficient, a full-blown crusade is declared and all of the fellowships combine their forces to focus on defending the problematic regions. In the event that even this is insufficient, a call for aid is issued to the Telothian Legion, which will send in several detachments of men to help in containing the threat.Should all of this fail and the border of the forest is breached in a meaningful manner, then and only then are the warning fires located at the headquarters of each fellowship lit. The lookouts in further towers will spy the flames and light their own fires. This chain of events continues all the way to Glarithia, where the great brazier at the steps leading up to the Everlasting Edifice is lit and the church of Resounding Truth issues a decree that all able hands must take up arms.
Precedents
During the several hundred years that humanity has performed their divine charge, the warning fires have been lit only once. This was when the first Host incursion took place and swept over the unprepared Seekers in a tidal wave of sinewy flesh and wicked fangs. Even in these dire straits, the great brazier in Glarithia was not lit, as the situation was wrested back under control with help from the Arachnitha, who sent their warriors to the aid of the Seekers and their legionnaire allies. After this, it became clear that the forest's containment efforts needed to be redoubled, and the church has been training more and more Seekers with each passing year.
The worst has come to pass.–A prepared speech to be given by the Hierarch should the brazier be lit
Our protectors have fallen, giving their lives in service of us all. It now falls to each and every one of us to live up to the example these brave men and women have set for us.
Remember that you fight to protect not only you and yours but every single soul on Nascindor, kin or otherwise.
Blessed be, and should you fall, fall knowing that you have given your all.
