Duskmar
Wards:
The Duskward
- The church ward of the city. The Church of Twilight stands proud here, watching over the western side of the river. This is the nicest part of the city. There are fancy and reputable shops and a few wealthier homes. The streets are clean and there are a moderate amount of guards, though they are generally relaxed. High Priestess Ilian rules the west side of the city.
- The city’s moderately sized university is in this ward. The scholar’s section is in the far west of the ward, bordering the harbor. Enclosed by small walls, there are many open courtyards between the school buildings. The school is known for science education in tandem with religion. Monks run the school and some students decide to train with them instead of following more scholarly pursuits. The library is in the section.
- The square by the university sector is known for its nightlife. The city is incredibly active at night, the sunsets are marvelous and it's far cooler at night in the desert. The nightlife in this square is of the reputable sort, being in the Duskward, but it does border the harbor and more illicit or rambunctious activities can be found there.
- As a working harbor, this ward is notoriously loud and chaotic. Sailors rush back and forth, many goods are transported in and many folk arrive or leave by this port. The more dangerous and controlled goods are not handled on this side of the river. There is much revelry in this section. Fewer folk live here compared to the other wards of the city. There are several taverns, the most well known being the Slaughtered Rose tavern.
- There are several stores by the docks, selling numerous goods from all over the world. There’s one magic item store on this side of the river; the Silver Star. There are a few general stores in the city, Depot being the largest in the harbor. There are also several curio shops.
- This is the necromancy ward of the city. It’s strange, not necessarily creepy, but definitely odd for those who aren’t used to necromancy being a standard practice. Bone servants openly walk the streets, treated respectfully, but not bothered. There are hawkers who sell relics, old bones they claim have power, and some truly do. Mages who wish to study necromancy come here, there is a library devoted to ancient tomes called evil by those who see necromancy as dark magic. The mages here see it as resource management and a future where the living are free to pursue what they genuinely wish to do for the menial tasks can be performed by the dead.
- The Bonerender’s Tower stands over the ward, an ivory spine covered in intricate patternings. The floor designs mimic vertebrae (though lacking the spinal curve), culminating the atlas bone atop the tower. The Lady Necromancer, Quinn Moreau lives here and she rules the eastern side of the city.
- The docks in this ward oversee the intake of more sensitive cargo, bodies are often sent here by those on other continents who believe in this type of life after death. There have been occasional corpse robberies by those who wish to do harm, so guard is often tight in this ward. Spell components also come through this ward. The warehouse on the banks of the river is home to the skeletons that are not in use.
- The eastern residential section of the city is solidly middle class. There are a few spread out homes on the outskirts of the ward. Most marrowfield residents are believers in the advancement of necromancy.
- Another residential section, this one spanning both sides of the river. There are a few shops and markets here but mostly dwellings.
- Oss is a strange ward. Most of the city guard resides here. They border some of the hills and dunes that surround the city and are trained to see the strange behaviors of the desert.
Demographics
Duskmar is home to a diverse population. There is a significant population of half-orcs and orcs compared to many other cities. Among the standard races, Duskmar is home to a few stranger ones. There is a resident fire giant population on the outskirts of the marrowfield district.
Government
The city is governed in tandem by Lady Quinn and High Cleric Ilan. They generally agree on how to govern the city and are well respected by the populace. There is a council that serves with them made of elected officials from each ward of the city.
