Levisthys
Properties
Material Characteristics
Levisthys is a formation of purple-hued crystals that turn a bristling blue with sparks when infused with aether.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Levisthys is highly conductive of aether and can contain the energy of spells. When full of energy it is warm to the touch and ruffles the hair of those who touch it. It can sometimes deliver a small shock on touch.
Geology & Geography
Levisthys is found on the depth of caves with rich soil on top. Crystals of levisthys usually sprout near lava surfaces of places with high temperatures.
Life & Expiration
If a levisthys crystal is overcharged often or with too much energy, the risk of it blowing up increases exponentially.
History & Usage
History
When first discovered and because of it's abundance, levisthys was considered a valueless resouce. It couldn't be shaped into jewelry because it would shatter if handled roughly and because of its heaviness.
However, when Tiamat raided Syldorei, her breath infused the crystals with aether and set the city of Glase afloat. Only through this calmity was it discovered that, when infused with aether, levisthys turned really light, to the point of floating.
After this discovery levisthys became a very sought after recourse that was used for the construction of aerial vehicles.
Discovery
Levisthys was first discovered in the mines of Glase during the Age of Woe. However, it's full potential wasn't unlocked until the year 1187 bMB.
Everyday use
Levisthys is used in the construction of aerial vehicles that allow fast travel between nations. It is also used in the creation of magical items destined to the deflection or capture of spells.
Refinement
Levisthys need to be infused with aether before it's use. For this purpose, the technocracy of Nergroma invented a machine capable of collecting the aether particles from the air and organic matter and infuse it directly into the crystals.
Manufacturing & Products
Arcane-proof barriers, deflective armors and shields as well as flying vessels are the most common products created through the use of this material.
Hazards
Overcharging the crystals may allow for a faster speed in airships, but it makes the airships more likely to blow up.
Distribution
Trade & Market
The largest concentration of crystals on the surface of Neoria is located under the floating city of Glase. As such, the viceroyalty of Syldorei is the main distributor of this material.
