Session XVIII: Premature Departure Report

General Summary

Surrounded by mimicking lunch items, our pea-sized party fights it's way out of the countertop. After they ended their enemies, they returned to their former size to find the tavern monster stalking them from the walls. A humanoid looking man seemingly fused to the wall came forth and the tavern rose anew. They battled their fierce enemy and came out on top. Nevertheless, in their struggle to get out of the collapsing building Malaveth was left alone to carry Kiber's unconscious body out of the tavern. He tried to avoid the falling debris, but it was too hard to achieve it while carrying a person and they were both caught by the rubble.

Malaveth emerged from the tavern, bruised and bleeding and carrying Kiber's unmoving body. He laid it on the table and ask his friend's for help, but nothing could be done for the young elf. As she breathed her last breath, the ring in her finger began to twitch and fell on the table. The ring emanated the voice of Aurora, who expressed her dissapointment in the death of her servant. She explained to the party how the girl's soul now belonged to her and was captive in her scepter. With this information, Medan offered the vampire an ammendment to their contract by which he would serve her for 20 years in exchange for the soul of her companion to be freed. She agreed and despite the insistence of Malaveth to avoid it, the pact was sealed.

As a token of appreciation for their pact renewal, Aurora sent a new companion to cover for Kiber, a mysterious doll that emerged from the ring. This sentient doll introduced herself as Coraline Von Mittenxia de Stuffycourt and after the mixed reactions of the group, they joined their midsts.

Inspecting the debris from the monster's structure, they found a few curious looking trinkets. Moreover, Medan found a second stone like the one they found in the body of the balhanoth they fought over at Syldorei. He picked it up and the magical energy contained within the stone seemed to flow into his body. A surge of power coursed through the body of the paladin, but he was able to supress it for the moment. He asked Aurora about the phenomenon he just went through. To his despair, he found out that the guest inside his body was growing stronger from this stones as was him.

After Medan picked up the stone, the party went to try and pick up Kiber's corpse, but it was nowhere to be found. Upon closer inspection, Malaveth found a trail leading to the forest. A trail of a body being dragged through the snow. However, this trail seemed to be a few days old at the very least.

The party went back to commander Eira's state and found her asking the tavern keep about them. With her they confirmed their suspicions, that once again they were gone for a week. They explained the situation to the commander who told them about their new mission. They were to report back to her after resting for at least a day. Malaveth was then asked about their fight with the beast by a local bard. He recounted the tale sorrowfully and the bard proceeded to write it down.

Inside the tavern, the party got a not so leisurely rest with the sound of their tale told by the bard. Having rested for the night, the party headed back to the empire. There they visited their companions name, inscribed in the wall amongst all the names of soldiers fallen. They made haste to the commander's office and inquired about their new mission. They were met with the surprise of becoming adventurers for a few missions. With the guild being overrun with petitions and most of the adventurers fleeing the country, they needed a hand.
