His Grace Vortigern Galard Caelum (a.k.a. The Demon Puppet)
Vortigern was the 16th emperor of the Ranginian Empire. A well-loved ruler that fell into despair on his later years. He was dethroned by his son and executed for treason against the empire.

Vortigern was an athletic man, highly trained in combat. A fearsome foe and a fearless ally, he was the best you could ask for in your side of a conflict.

Reign
Vortigern's reign over the people of the empire was well-received at first. However, after his wife died the emperor turned into a tyrant. He banished his son Adriel and caged her daughter Elaine in her room.
After that, his politics became harsher on the poor. The people began to suffer and a rebellion ensued. His son lead this rebellion and overthrew him, having found him conspiring with demons.
Family Ties
Vortigern really despised his son, he firmly believed that the birth of his angelic-natured son was what cost Skadi her life. His daughter on the other hand, he loved. On his years of sanity he would have given her life for his daughter. On the contrary on his derranged years he tried to give his daughter's life.
The emperor was severely dependent of his wife. She was her reason to live, her light in the dark. When she died, Vortigern cursed the heavens and shut himself in for days. On these days of weakness a demon came to him and offered him a deal. This meaning he could get his wife back, he did not hesitate, and sold the empire's future to the demon.
Religious Views
Vortigern worshiped the Light Bearer, around whose faith he based his life. After his wife died, he turned his back to religion, firmly dissapointed in the higher powers that let her love die.
Social Aptitude
Though tyrannical, Vortigern was a charismatic man that the masses adored. At first, he was nearly worshipped for bringging a tide of change into the empire.
