The Reclamation
The Reclamation, also known as the Goran Execution, was a covert operation performed by the Querian Empire circa 250N.A., in which the Goran population was removed from positions of power by force.
The Conflict
Prelude
When the Querian Empire first began to spread its influence across the continent, the Goran were largely members of Jade society. Tensions between the two cultures were heated, as the Querians were expanding largely towards Tel Padria and its surrounding Jade empire, claiming to be the true heirs to the Magi legacy.
This entitlement extended to Magi schooling, and as many Goran were involved with The Magi Alliance of Enlightened Futures those who resided within the territories the Empire now owned were separated from that alliance and forced to bend the knee to the Querian Empress.
Goran, like their Magi cousins, were considered their own society within the Kingdom of Jadori, and refused to give up their alliance and freedoms within it. As no true laws had been formed surrounding the Goran's existence at the time, and the schools could not run without their aid (as the Querian understanding of Magi teachings were limited), they were allowed to continue as they were, for a time.
As more Jade territories were claimed by the Empire and more Jade resources were seized, the Empire tried once more to rid themselves of Goran. A propaganda campaign began to spread across the now expansive country, taking advantage of the tension surrounding their animalistic qualitites to breed fear of their nature. As the Goran began to push back, using their positions as teachers and community leaders to counter the violent claims, plans were hatched to weaken their positions from within.
Deployment
On an undocumented date circa 250N.A., small troops of military operators entered undercover into major Goran territories. These operatives were tasked with destabilising and eventually dismantling the Goran leadership from within, by performing staged acts of violence against regular citizens, spreading rumours and, in some cases, killing prominent members of the community. It is unknown how long this operation continued for, and the Empire denies its involvement.
Outcome
By the time operatives were beginning to be suspected and uncovered, it is estimated that at least thirty-eight Goran had been murdered or falsely incarcerated. Public trust of the Goran was damaged, with protests and acts of violence already beginning to crop up among local communities. Though it was still early days, it seemed the Empire had succesfully planted the seed of distrust.
Aftermath
The fight between Goran and the Empire continued for many years. Protests, riots and acts of violence grew increasingly prevelant against Goran and conspiracies grew and spread without further direct interference from authorities. Slowly but surely the Goran were forced into hiding, and without the loudest voices of support for their cause the conspiracies grew out of hand.
In 287N.A., Goran were no classified as dangerous individuals. It was encouraged to report any instance of unregistered Goran activity immediately, and any Goran bold enough to live out of hiding were swiftly incarcerated. By 300N.A. the Goran were considered an extremely rare mutation of Magi, corrupted by the power of the Sixth Old Magi. By 340N.A. Goran were no longer classified as a subspecies of human, and hunting of Goran individuals was legalised. By 400N.A. the Goran were largely forgotten about, widely considered extinct or mythological, and any trace of their history had been seized or destroyed.
Historical Significance
In Literature
Any mention of Goran in historical texts is forbidden by the Empire, so little literature on their history exists. As Jade consider them a protected species due to the genocide, a tight hold is kept on all literature and knowledge discovered by or of the Goran. As they do not seem to develop beyond these two territories, knowledge of their culture and existence is extremely limited and considered privileged information.
Nonetheless, as the Kingdom of Jadori contains the only known population of Goran, libraries do exist within the country that contain texts detailing what little is known of the Execution, and these texts are used to teach Magi and Goran children under the Alliance's wing. These texts are largely written by refugees of the Empire and do not paint a positive picture of the conflict. Some name the Empire specifically, accusing them of genocide, where others describe the conflict as a slow-burning deterioration of public opinion with no known origin.
