Coitelan Alliance

The Coitelan Alliance boasts some of the most cosmopolitan urban centers of any nation. Though Humans hold onto a sizable racial plurality, populations of Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes, and a smattering of other races all find homes within Coitela.   The “Alliance” specifically refers to a merging of powerful noble houses around 409 C.Y.  under the most powerful two: the Coibran family and the Tellaret family. A ceremonial monarchy has ruled ever since, though a small parliament representing the aristocracy holds most real political power.   Within the Coitelan Alliance, religious affiliation also runs the gamut, but is viewed with suspicion by the powerful classes. Under the guise of “enlightened secularism,” they engage in more anti-clergy and anti-occult practices than any other developed nation; people suspected of “consorting with High Evil,” a phrase usually interpreted to mean “communicating with demons and devils,” may find a toasty end to their life in the middle of a town square.

Values

The one throughline of Coitelan belief is a Coitelan Exceptionalism. As such, stubborn resolution runs rampant in their cultural myths; stories of old kings slaying dragons or single-handedly holding back opposing armies with the help of their trusty steed may be heard from a tavern bard on any given evening.   Women within the Coitelan Alliance have legal equality to men, but a deep-running patriarchy puts limits on what all but the most stubbornly powerful women are able to accomplish.
