Derganol

Derganol began as a collection of mortal races under the direct domain and control of the Gold Dragon Dergana, from which the oligarchic federation derives its name. Through some influence of the god Donar, as well as a penchant by Dergana and her direct descendants to shapeshift and mate with the mortal denizens of the then-kingdom, a thriving Dragonborn population came to a degree of political and social prominence. When Dergana herself died some 400-500 years before The Scribing  , some of her closest advisors organized the formation of the Federation of Derganol.   Dragonborn in these states still control significant amounts of political and economic power, even the ones who aren’t on the High Council of Derganol. Indeed, traces of draconic bloodline are considered desirable in the same way that a nebulous concept of “nobility” has the power to shape politics in more racially homogenous societies.   The social status of non-dragonborn citizens within Derganol has varied over time; though seldom have any of the states in the federation engaged in active slavery, they have often condoned a sort of capitalistic feudalism that significantly hampers the social mobility of anyone without at least some scaling on their skin. A common element of heroic folklore is the story of the “smooth-born” hero discovering their ancient draconic origin through an outburst of sorcerous power, and using it to depose a corrupt local lord.

Values

The complicated and problematic racial history aside, Derganolan values tend to reward level headedness and wise judgement. They tend towards a collectivist mentality, and have some of the most equal-minded views on gender relations of any major power.
