The “Wells” are generally responsible for sustaining the people of Oqthcali and for ensuring the longevity of the population. They receive instruction from an early age on the methods of growing plants, healing wounds, and raising protein-rich varieties of Stalks.
Oqthcalians do not raise animals for the purpose of food consumption. Instead, “stalks” are harvested and milled as the primary food source. Stalks are plentiful on the Sol-facing side of Oqthcali. They are tall and slender tree-like structures, which can be skinned and milled into an edible pulp with various textures and flavors based on the variety of stalk.
There are rare and common stalks. Stalks are local to different areas of Oqthcali, so the different geographic varieties create a diverse source of food for the population.
