Era beginning/end

During this time, fear and chaos plagued the entire world as the Vanishing technology became widespread. Quickly thereafter, an arms race for the creation of Vanishing Machines ignited. Even more of the world’s population was vanished. Terrorists used vanishing as a means to extort money. Vanishing was secretly used by governments in their efforts to topple opposing foreign governments. Billionaires bought their own vanishing machines and tried to vanish their foes. Decades of uncertainty and dread followed.
