The Order of the Unending Search

The Order of the Unending Search was founded almost three hundred years ago in the coastal city of Rubrisy, which would become the capitol of The Republic of Basileth forty years later. This order was founded with the goal of seeking out and preserving once forgotten knowledge of the world. The main branch of the OUS, The Great Archives, boasts the third largest library in the world, and the second largest repository of ancient artifacts, both magical and mundane.

History

In 2721 WE, Helena Basileth, a member of the wealthy Basileth family that would go on to found the Basilethi Republic, made it her personal passion to seek out forgotten knowledge and artifacts of the past. This date is now considered the founding year of The Order of the Unending search, though Helena pursued these goals alone for the majority of her life. Helena's tender heart for the suffering of others led her to take in dozens of children throughout her lifetime, and these children would accompany her on every voyage into forgotten ruins and ancient forests. Upon her death in 2790 WE, the many children whose lives she touched laid down the tenants of an organization to be named The Order of the Unending Search, crediting Helena as their founder. Though membership of the order is open to any who wish to pursue truth and knowledge, the Order honors Helena's memory by taking in orphans and unwanted children and educating them to their beliefs.   As the Order grew, so too did it's responsibilities. The order became a repository for knowledge and artifacts, a place of education and open sharing of ideas, a patron to many libraries, archives, schools, and even adventurers, and an influential presence in most major cities of the world. As time went on, the Order became less and less involved with the seeking out of knowledge as their archives grew, but they continued to send out Seekers as a sign of respect for Helena Basileth's original work, and she still maintains the honorary title of First Seeker of the Order, with the actual leader being known as the Second Seeker. However, with the new worlds discovered after the Lifting of the Veil, the role of the Seekers of the Order has moved into the forefront as the rush to colonize and explore threatens to destroy priceless history.

Structure

High Archivist

The High Archivist, currently Mystin Trentaea , oversees every aspect of the Order's pursuits and responsibilities, but the role is not truly one of leadership as The High Archivist is traditionally as the first among equals with the other archivists of the order, and the face of the organization.

Archivist

The Archivist position is held for the most important members of the Order and is only equal in influence to the Second Seeker of the Order. An Archivist typically will have one area of expertise that they are responsible for managing all aspects of. The most recently added Archivist position is the Archivist of the Veil, Ailduin Reylar, which was created as the official coordinator of the Order's efforts beyond the veil.

Second Seeker of the Order

The Second Seeker of the Order, currently Palan Tendreth, is responsible for the assignment and coordination of the Seekers, who are primarily autonomous from the rest of the order. The role is considered one of great honor, though it has no more power than any archivist.

Seeker of the Order

The Seekers of the Order exist almost separately from the rest of the Order's structure. With the exception of Helena Basileth, every Seeker of the Order forms a pair bond with a partner before they are able to begin work. The Seekers are broken into two groups, the Wings and the Talons. The Wings serve as the academic and intellectual half of a pair, while the Talons serve as protection and support. The Seekers outrank The Conservators in both honor and privilege, but they still must answer to any Archivist.

Conservator

The Conservator is the base rank of a member of the Order. Any who trains under The Order and pursues its tenants falls under the role of the Conservator. The Conservators are responsible for maintaining and distributing stores of knowledge, collecting and protecting artifacts, providing education to those that seek it, and withholding knowledge from no one. The only rank below that of the Conservator is that of the Initiate.

Initiate

Initiates are any individual who has not been deemed ready to represent the Order and is still in training. All initiates are educated in Rubrisy at The Great Archive.
