Grace Black
Grace Aine Black- Murphy
Grace Black, originally Grace Murphy, is the biological mother of Hiram Black. She worked as an Assistant Quartermaster and then Quartermaster of the Manhattan Transports warehouse in New York City. Grace is a very typical Irish girl - small, thin, pale, fiery, faithful. While she was never legally married, she claimed she was the wife of Mattias Black, that a ship-captain married them before they left port. Immigration at Ellis Island didn't bother much with corroboration of her tale, and she took up the name Grace Black, which she used throughout her life in the Colonies.
