Feather Mountain

Hovering over New Luoyang is the floating retreat of Feather Mountain. This golden city is a tranquil inspiring location for young and old alike.
— Tourism brochure for Feather Mountain.

Purpose / Function

Feather Mountain was a living complex for splendoro heroes to live in. When it was active, it served as a super school.
It had the following buildings to sustain people who worked there:
  • Central Pagoda Office, for administration purposes.
  • Living Quarters, for staff, students, and guests. A cafeteria was included with the ground floor.
  • Mountain Library, for philosophy and ethics classes.
  • Mountain Training Hall, for physical education and combat classes.

Alterations

In 2008, the central pagoda's teleporter was upgraded to load passengers faster.
The library and training hall were modified to include hologram projectors as replacements for human sparring partners.
In 2013, the teleporters were disabled for any newcomers, only existing registered heroes could continue entering the fortress.

Architecture

It is built on a piece of floating land which conceals a Laputa Suspension Engine, and after it was installed, set to float 500 meters above sea level and away from any landmasses.
The only way to get there without using the Wukong Teleporting Network is to fly, a power that not many splendoro have.
The entire complex was inspired by traditional Chinese tales of spiritual retreats, thus it used bricks, wood, and stone as building material.
The buildings were explicitly meant to be surrounded by bamboo and deciduous trees to shield them from noise.
To prevent people from falling off, the floating complex was surrounded by granite rock walls at least ten meters high and two meters thick.
Thus, one would only get a sky-high view if they went to the top of the Pagoda Office or the Living Quarters.

History

Feather Mountain was built in 1995 in a cordoned-off location while waiting for the Suspension Engine to be completed.
In 1998, it was officially opened along with a permanently installed teleporter in New Luoyang's Kongming Tower.
It had illustrious service from 2000 to 2010 despite Phoebe's death.
The rash of splendoro who would rather abuse their power from 2011 onwards contributed to the complex's eventual abandonment.
Since then, the organization declined to the point where only a skeleton crew of two elderly splendoro remain as part time janitors.
In 2013, due to the severe lack of heroically-inclined splendoro, Feather Mountain closed registrations for any new heroes permanently until further notice.
