• Emir Raylindal was the second child born to the king and queen of the Laurelian kingdom.
• he was born in the middle of winter, during the coldest and worst blizzard the country had seen in many years.
• he was born with stark-white hair and a pale complexion, and was very sickly. Not many believed he would survive his first year.
• Many said that because of the circumstances of his birth, he would become one of the great Ice Formers, with the power to manipulate ice and water, even to the point of creating living beings.
• his grandfather died that very night, soon after Emir had made his first cries.
