Mainstream view

Science in the Grand City of Kislyth is viewed from an extremely skeptical standpoint. Due to historical events where entities, either from the void or demonic in nature, has subtly guided researchers to develop technology which has devastated nations. As there is no way of knowing if a piece of knowledge is divinely inspired, created by human ingenuity, or inspired by some malicious actor, the Witans have come to the conclusion that it is safer to collect the knowledge others create over creating it themselves.
The Kislyth academics are more conservators of knowledge rather than producers of knowledge. They venture out into the world to log information, and then return only to archive their recordings before once more leaving the confines of the Kislyth Archives. These academics are known as "Collectors" in Kislyth.

Opposing view

Many scholars have taken offense to the extreme skeptical view on knowledge generation the Witans have. While the reactions from these academics vary, most chose to find employment elsewhere in order to practice their craft more freely. Some academics do turn to spreading unrest, to researching the unholy, or some are even driven into attempting to open rifts within the confines of Kislyth.
