Humans

"These are my children, the humans. Look at them. Look how boldly they care for each other, how they stand against every threat to their kin as if it were a threat to themselves. Their strength comes not from magic, but from numbers. From willpower and creativity. This is what our world needs, my siblings, if it is to survive the turbulent times that are sure to come." -In a letter from The Winged Radiance, goddess of battle and protection, to the other gods, Year 1.     Humans: Z'hrat's true jacks-of-all-trades. They lack the innate magical abilities of the Faeries and devilkin, the powerful strength of the minotaurs, and the uncanny perceptive abilities and survival instincts of the orcs. However, these are all things that can be learned, and learn them they do. There are few things that humans physically can't achieve, and even fewer things that they won't attempt. Humans have found equal success in the city and in the Frontier.  Humans have rose to prominence in every single guild, even when the odds are stacked against them. Humans have made scientific discoveries in all fields- some of which, like wizardry, only exist because of humans' stubborn attempts to replicate the innate capabilities of other species.       Meanwhile, humans have a unique survival adaptation that is much harder for other species to develop for themselves- an instinct to bond and create families and groups, even with those who are not blood related. Humans stand in congregation with each other, lending each other their strengths and covering for each other's weaknesses, and it was this specific adaptation that impressed the gods, much more than things like immortality or magic. It was this adaptation that the young society of Z'hrat was built upon, that inspired the formation of the guild system, and this culture of brotherhood and neighborly love still exists to this day. Theoretically.       Z'hratian humans are the same species as our Earth's humans. They are the second-most common sapient species on New Z'hrat, representing about 25% of the total population, but this number is a little fuzzy nowadays, as inter-species marriages and children are extremely common. This number jumps to about 40% when undead humans such as ghosts and zombies, and genetically-spliced individuals who'd began as humans are placed in that category.
