Sampati, Lord of Vultures and King of Raptors, is the
Animal Lord of birds of prey. Together with his wife, the Queen of Birds, he rules over most feathered creatures who soar the skies of the Material Plane. Of all the Animal Lords, Sampati is one of the most likely to play a part in the affairs of mortals. Most commonly, he is willing to trade magical artifacts for body parts and cadavers when he's feeling peckish. Particularly when he feels the arrangement will be to the benefit of the greater good.
Shadows Unleashed Campaign
It was one such arrangement that acquainted him with the adventurer
Chigiri. The young man was born physically weak and caught Sampati's eye while the Vulture King was disguised as a simple trader at a flea market, selling charms made from the bones of small prey animals. He offered one such charm to
Chigiri in exchange for the ninja's right eye, which cured him of his physical weakness once the deal was accepted. While
Chigiri found the whole affair unusual, he was nonetheless grateful and considered Sampati a friend.
Chigiri and the rest of
the Headhunters later encountered Sampati shortly after defeating an
ettercap and his flock of giant spiders. The dead spiders attracted the hungry Vulture King and he eagerly traded a magical item and information about the 7 Swords that
Chigiri was seeking in exchange for them. Later, the amulet of Sampati that
Chigiri wore caused a wereowl to mistake him as a worshipper of Sampati and help him further in his quest for the swords.
