Silinrul, the Giant Wolf Spider
Silinrul ("hunter" in the drow language) was found by Leh'ct when he was the size of a common house spider. Not realizing that Silinrul was a baby rather than full grown, Leh'ct was quite surprised as his pet grew larger and more difficult to keep secret from the adults running his orphanage. Leh'ct did convince them to let him keep Silinrul with the argument that Silinrul's spider silk could be sold to help fund the orphanage.
Silinrul is one of the more intelligent examples of a giant wolf spider, being as loyal to Leh'ct as a trained dog. He is also large enough that Leh'ct can use Silinrul as a mount, at least until the young drow hits his growth spurt. Leh'ct also milks Silinrul for his venom regularly, usually not poisoning himself by accident in the process, sometimes to sell and sometimes to apply to his daggers to make them more deadly.
Leh'ct's beloved spider was nearly killed on the Silken Paths when a spider-like OoPA grabbed it and nearly ripped Silinrul in half as it stared at Leh'ct with a malicious gleam in its eyes. The incident unnerved Leh'ct greatly as he tried to puzzle out why the creature had done this, to the point where it seemed more interested in hurting Silinrul than its own survival.
Leh'ct was later forced to leave Silinrul in the village of Glogdolp as the Thaig Expedition prepared to make their way to the Deep Spire. The kuo-toa villagers the adventurers had befriended warned Leh'ct that the drow who lived there (namely the Sword Dancers) would kill Silinrul on sight if the spider came along. The kuo-toa promised to take care of Silinrul in Leh'ct's absence and seemed to think they'd be able to train him how to fish.
Silinrul was not reunited with Leh'ct until months later, during which time he'd acquired a taste for fish (Leh'ct now having to coax him into eating anything else) and a wide-brimmed fisherman's hat he refused to part with. Shortly thereafter, he left with Leh'ct when the adventurers met the medusa Karai and she offered to take Leh'ct to his parents.
Leh'ct continued to improve his druid magic during this journey and used a spell he'd been long researching to awaken Silinrul, boosting the spider's mind to the level of sapience and granting him the ability to speak.
