Tarson Markabreech is a
deep gnome tinkerer who builds small constructs and various gadgets to get by. Rumors say he used to work at
Ollin's Borehole and managed to get out somehow before the
duergar ransacked the place, but he never talks about his past. Any mention of it results in him growing quiet and pale, then making an excuse for himself to leave. Considering he always has this reaction, it's anyone's guess how the rumors even got started.
Meeting the Thaig Expedition
Three travelers visiting the
Deep Spire came into Tarson's tinker shop one day (
Leh'ct Arlathil,
Elycia Mirais, and
Jake F. Statefarm) to look around and ask him a few questions. Tarson showed off several of his clockwork constructs to the potential customers. Some of these were modeled after animals, like his clockwork bat and armadillo. Others stuck with simple shapes, such as a teacup with little legs and a four-legged ball that went about his shop picking up garbage from the floor. Tarson stated that last one was his big project, which he planned to sell to
House Vaerixas and the
Tideborne Tribe to make a lot of money.
The conversation took a turn south when
Elycia took out a note to read and Tarson glimpsed the name of
Ollin's Borehole on it as she put it away. The deep gnome paled and told the not-customers that he needed to be closing up the shop for the day (before lunchtime even) on the flimsy excuse that he'd forgotten to say his daily prayers earlier. He saw the adventurers out and was unknowingly spied upon by
Leh'ct (who wildshaped into a lizard) not long afterwards. The young druid heard Tarson muttering something about how he'd "tried to save them" and it "wasn't his fault".
