As is the case with most eldritch beings, it is unclear what exactly the King in Yellow is and where its interests lie. It is said that one who says the King in Yellow's name three times uninterrupted can attract its attention or even summon him, though why anyone would do this with any goal other than committing an elaborately horrific suicide is unclear to people who are considered sane. Others claim he can be summoned by playing a specific combination of notes on a violin, though whether this is truth or hearsay is undetermined.
Roughly 2,500 years ago, the aristocrat Candelaria Sonavella came across an ancient record of the King in Yellow and schemed to use its power for her own ends. She managed to locate a weakened spot in the Great Barrier around Nexus and opened a gateway to the King in Yellow's domain for just a second, just long enough for eldritch ooze to leak through. This eldritch essence later became the Porvenir, which Candelaria was unable to exploit as she had intended.
