Candelaria Sonavella
Daughter and younger sibling of the Sonavella family, Candelaria's tame outer persona is a facade hiding her wavering sanity and lust for power. Resentful towards her brother reigning over the Sonavella Shipping Co. simply through the luck of having been born first, Candelaria schemes to take her brother's place. She has funded expeditions looking for lost treasures throughout the Ashes Archipelago and it was on one of these ventures that her assistant, Altivo, made an extraordinary find. As the barrier around Nexus began to weaken, energies from the Outer Realms began leaking into the world for the first time in millennia. Including energies from the Far Realm, a place home to monstrous beings so terrible that mere knowledge of their existence can drive a person mad.
She began to worship an eldritch creature, the King in Yellow, and used what she learned to find a primordial mimic in its infant state. Candelaria had it planted on one of the company ships, planning to let it devour the crew and then taking its young to raise as a fleet of living ships at her command. What she did not count on was the creature gaining the intellect of its victims and developing a conscious on top of a parental need to protect its children. The first mercenaries she hired to recover the infants fled before even reaching the ship as it fired upon them. She decided to try her luck again, hiring a group of sailors called the Venture Boys.
Candelaria claimed her ship had been stolen by pirates and was carrying family heirlooms magically sealed in white spheres (mimic eggs) that she wanted back. The adventurers boarded the ship and it told them the truth behind Sonavella's actions. They resolved to let the ship and its children (already hatched into model-sized ships) leave peacefully before returning to confront Sonavella. She admitted no wrongdoing as she and Vinnie Vice talked through barbed words and half-truths until Althea lost her cool and spilled the beans to Candelaria.
Displeased with their results but satisfied with the information they brought her, Candelaria paid the sailors for their work and set sail to confront the mimic with her own ship and crew. Unknown to her, Vinnie used his magic to warn the mimic of her approach and it managed to flee before Candelaria's ship could reach it.
