Culture

House Luminalis stands as the oldest and most esteemed family in all of Calradia. Their roots trace back to Elysium itself, where their ancestors were granted the blood of celestial beings, imbuing them with a natural affinity for magic and a sense of responsibility to use their powers for the greater good. As they descended to Calradia, they brought with them knowledge of ancient magics, transmitted through their bloodline, laying the foundation for the family's legacy as powerful spellcasters.   The curse that has befallen House Luminalis it now serves as a their defining aspect. For 40 years Their relentless pursuit of breaking the curse has been the central focus of the family. The quest for the cure is a driving force that unites them in their self-imposed isolation, as they seek to find a way to restore their family's future and liberate themselves from the cursed fate that threatens their existence.

Public Agenda

House Luminalis is marked by a delicate balance between their own ambitions and their responsibility as magical leaders of the Realm. While they are not entirely selfless, their pursuit of magical knowledge and influence has led to significant contributions to the realm. They remain enigmatic and guarded, but their formidable reputation as masters of magic demands respect and admiration from all who seek to wield arcane power.   House Luminalis guards their profound understanding of the old magics, ancient arcane secrets and artifacts with great zeal. While they might share some knowledge with promising casters, they remain cautious about revealing too much to outsiders. Their belief is that only those deemed worthy and trustworthy should have access to the most potent magical secrets.

It is said that House Luminalis trace their lineage back to the Titan war, where their ancestors were granted the blood of celestial beings by the Old Gods that yet lived among mortals. This celestial heritage bestowed upon them a natural affinity for magic and a sense of responsibility to use their powers for the greater good.   Seraphiel the Wise, the founder of House Luminalis, sat on the very first council of Arch-magi and helped create the Nominis Arcanum school of magic, Seraphiel was an apprentice of the first Arch Mage, Larai, who channeled Mystra's power to weave the Loom and gave Magic to men. He was bid by his master to design and construct a magical vault to seal the most powerful knowledge, spells and rituals so that they would never fall into the wrong hands, he also built a fortress of arcane might around the vault, which later became the seat of his House: The Stellarium Sanctorum. As a reward for his years of devotion and dedication to her cause, the Old God Mystra saw fit to grace him with a portion of her celestial blood, ensuring that his descendants would forever be blessed with a sorcerous affinity and a strong magical potential. Seraphiel the Wise went on to be crowned as the 2nd King of Calradia after the death of King Gareth Dragonsbane, at the coronation he took the last name Luminalis (which means "Light of Hope" in celestial) after the style of his predecessor.   Ever since, House Luminalis has been the responsible for the protection of the Kingdom's oldest arcane secrets and most dangerous spells. Every family member swears an oath in blood to safeguard the realm's magical lore and to not divulge it's contents.   In more recent times, it is said that during the Battle of Nexus, the Necromancer saw House Luminalis as the greatest threat to his malevolent plans. When even he was denied entry to the Stellarium Sanctorum, he attempted to enter with strength of arms and strength of spells but was turned back. Unable to wound the Luminalis, fueled by envy and malice, he cast a wicked curse upon the family, dooming the house to sterility and extinction. The vile curse robbed them of their ability to bear children but granted them unnaturally long lives and immunity to natural illnesses. The price of their survival came at the cost of their legacy. As a result House Luminalis has been consumed with finding a cure to the curse that afflicts their bloodline before time runs out.

    Religion

As with many other Great Houses, Luminalis follow an old God, the one who began their bloodline: The Mother of All Magic, Mystra. Although some devote themselves to Azuth, The Lord of Spells or to Oghma, Lord of Knowledge or even to Deneir, Scribe of Oghma, all believe in the Old Gods.
