Nominis Arcanum
Nominis Arcanum (arcane confederacy) is the only mages guild in the realm, it is separated into 7 distinct branches that represent the different schools of magic (except necromancy), they are: the Abjurers; the Conjurers; the Diviners; the Enchanters; the Evokers; the Illusionists; and the Transmuters. Each branch is led by a different arch mage and they each have their own operations. The leaders of the branches meet at the council of the arch magi which is where they make decisions for the guild as a whole. When a new member is accepted within the Nominis Arcanum he must make a choice as to which school of magic to specialize in and which will be prohibited to him. The neophyte then studies in each school alternatively starting with the specialized school, earning badges as he completes his studies in each. Once the new mage has mastered 6 magics he becomes a full fledged member of the guild and free to do as he pleases, many choose to stay with one school or another but some decide to leave and do other things, be it becoming the local mage of a newly settled land or even joining different guilds and organizations. Very rarely, if ever, are guild mages excommunicated; "Once a mage, always a mage" is a common saying within the ranks of the initiated. The Arcanum has a very good relationship with the Kingdom, the Diviners most of all, since they serve the Kingdom almost exclusively.
