Alton Powell
Alton comes from a small clan of Reclaimers - a sub-culture of Nomads who travel place to place, focusing mostly on ruins of the old world. His clan would find discarded or broken pieces of technology and repair or repurpose these devices. It's a hard, but rewarding, life and it's one where the whole of the clan if your family and has a hand in raising the children. Children who are often seen as 'running free' but really, there's always someone from the clan around to keep an eye on things.
Clan society means that everyone has a role to fill - everyone has intrinsic value. It's unfortunate then that when the Clan elder passed away and a new Elder was elected, that Alton's clan picked the worst possible person to lead. He mismanaged resources, wouldn't listen to scouting reports, and wasted money until nothing was left at which time the clan dissolved and everyone went their own way.
Alton now work as an electronics tech, paying the day to day bills by fixing household electronics in a dive shop in Kabuki. It keeps the lights on - barely - but with the hostilities escalating between the Mox and the Tyger Claws - business has been poor. Alton's not too worried though, he has a few connections and a relatively successful side biz. He's got an inside contact working at an Arasaka warehouse who can get him parts for cheap - parts that Alton uses to make all kinds of gadgets and gizmos that are... "less than officially licensed" if you follow the meaning.
He briefly did work for a man named Albert Wright on designs for an advanced neural processor. There was a significant flaw in the design that Alton pointed out repeatedly - a flaw that would allow significant data corruption resulting in compromised systems. For all of Alton's hard work, he was abruptly let go from the project, paid his wage and then had his workshop mysteriously torched.
Albert Wright was recently announced as the head of Reploid research and development at Genom International and Alton thinks that his former client was behind the firebombing.
In the last ten years, two people he was close to have disappeared suddenly and abruptly and one ended things very messily. Alton also firmly believes Wright and Genom were behind these disappearances as well.
Now that Genom's B.O.O.M.E.R.s are entering the mass market, Alton is worried that they are still employing the A10 Neural Processor he worked on.
