Earth
The ancestral home of humanity, Earth has been our only safe harbour in space for the majority of our history.
In 2085, Earth and all its inhabitants were hit by "The Cure", leaving it in ruin; the planet today is a Cure infested lush wasteland, with few areas still inhabited by Humans to this day.
Any human with enough money to their name leaves the planet for the first available flight to Nijin-Konai in hope of a better life in the radiation infused atmosphere of our second home; who remains behind are those who are too poor to afford the flight or the rich who live in the domes and renewed world cities.
Geography
Once very varied in biomes and biota as well, now mostly covered in dense, unhealthy, Cure forests.
Trees and shrubs growing uncontrollably without any animals grazing and browsing their leaves; these plants grow and die under their weight in extremely dense forests filled with the dead remains of animals and plants alike.
The oceans have very few life in them, most fishes have gon extinct and the waterways left uninhabited.
The once great Megalopolis of Humankind now reclaimed by unhealthy vegetation and left in ruins.
Gushes of lethal wind scour the surface in Cure storms, people can't leave their homes without protective suits; poverty abounds on the surface.
Fauna & Flora
Most of the planet's fauna is now extinct, with very few surviving genera to date.
Plant genera have also seen a rapid decline as angiosperms have gone extinct in most locales along with the disappearance of pollinating animals.
Marine environments were completely devastated as "the cure" followed the currents around the globe, infecting the seas.
Safe harbours for life remain areas like the Gobi desert, a shadow desert where the cure storms are less frequent or environments sanitized through the use of domes to cut them off the external world.
Natural Resources
While natural resources have been harvested for as long as humanity has memory of, a new kind of precious resource emerged in the form of old world artifacts.
Things like every day items, photographs, electronics etc... became of incredible value for collecotors or for reclamation purposes, giving us a window to a long lost and forgotten past.
Entire communities have been built in the outskirts of old world cities for the sole purpose of artifact reclamation.
Most of Pre-Reshtu history was lost to slavery, leaving us with a very limited historical identity, every old world artifact reclaimed and somewhat still accessible to us is a step towards remembering who we are.
History
Earth has seen the advent of Humans as a species and civilization, from the stone age to the Information era, Earth hosted us for approxiumately 2 million years.
In 2085, Humans were driven to near extinction by the Reshtu, a sophont species coming from far beyond our star system.
The Humans that remained were hauled into their glimmering fleet and selectively bred to be sold to collectors around the galaxy.
Thanks to the help of some Reshtu activists, humans were freed from their cages and managed to overpower their slavers, gaining control over the glimmering fleet and finding the way home.
Upon returning to Earth, they found a wasteland inhabited only by those who the Reshtu considered of minor economic importance, resulting in the growth and expansion of those few African, Indian, Native American or Australian populations they left behind.
Humanity left Earth to find a new home while working on a Treatment for "The Cure".
Tourism
Tourism is not what most people would travel to Earth for, however there's a whole subsection of Pre-Reshtu enthusiasts who willingly risk their life to travel to the unreclaimed ruins of the old world in protective suits to witness the greatness of world wonders such were the cities of old.
Most tourism on Earth is generated by the wonders of the renewed world, such as Sentinel Island City or the great monument to humanity in the center of the old world city of Delhi.
