Aakan

Once the capital of the Carlegnian Empire, Aakan now serves as the seat of power in Lethennor as well as the home of the reigning King/Queen of the Lethennor. It sits on the shores of the massive freshwater Yava Lake, which allows access to fishing and shipping via the Yava River.    The city is the grandest in Lethennor. Fine stone walls and buildings protect the denizens of the city from outside attack and the complicated and intricate canal system provides clean water to the entire populace. It serves as the home of whatever Knightly Order the current King/Queen originated from (at the moment it's the Prismatic Order via Queen Zefri Cloris), but also maintains small halls for every single Knightly Order in the land.    The city also serves as the primary location for the worship of Sulanar, with the Cathedral of Sulanar and the reigning Patriarch both being in the city.

Government

As the seat of the Lethennese government, the city is home to various foreign and domestic visitors hoping to get the ear and attention of the King/Queen. When it comes to the actual day-to-day workings of the city though, the task is mostly overseen by the Church of Sulanar, who takes care of the infrastructure and logistics of running the large city. They hire the builders who work the roads, place the soldiers who act as the city guard, and keep the port running. That said they are technically subservient to the King/Queen.

Defences

The city is known for its sturdy and so far (technically) unbreached walls, with the first king Joban Irving having gained entrance to the city to take it from the Carlegnian's via an inside traitor who opened some of the gates for him.   On top of its sturdy walls the city hires a full-time set of Guards and Watchmen who enforce the laws in the city. Additionally, when a new king/queen is crowned they move nearly 9/10ths of whatever Knightly Order they hail from to the city to take residence in the palace, giving it a de-facto permanent military garrison.

Industry & Trade

The city has many of the tradesmen normally found in large cities, but it is well known for its gifted craftsmen and its massive fishing industry due to Yava Lake.

History

Aakan was built by the Atkorian Empire, but was mostly a backwater fortress that collected the food tribute the local humans were expected to deliver for the Imperium.   This changed long after the Atkorians were gone, when Frant Carlegn returned from his time abroad in Abhailmid and took Aakan as his launching off point to build his Empire. It was during the time of the Carlegnian's that the walls were built as they were, and much of the city was built.    During the fall of the Carlegnian's the founder of Lethennor, Joban Irving, conquered the city via an inside traitor and proceeded to make the city his capital. Ever since the days of Irving the city has served as the seat of power for the Queen or King of Lethennor.

Architecture

The city is a diverse mix of architectural styles. While it is made up predominantly of the white and grand stone typical of the Carlegnian Empire older parts of the city still hold signs of the astute and formalized architecture of the Atkorian's. This has been meshed with the newer style of the Lethennese, which combines more common building materials such as concrete and often finds a synergy between the Carlegnian and Atkorian styles.

Geography

Aakan lies with Lake Yava to its north and east, the heartland plains to its front, and the dense Grekki Forest to its west. It is also surrounded by a few hills and foothills.
