Escuda
One of the two primary port cities in The Principality of Al-Tiba, Escuda is critical for guarding the critical Strait of Apendra which leads into the Dual Gulf region a critical series of dual-gulfs that both supply the Principality with most of its fishing and protect its in-land from sea invasion.
Despite its strategic importance Escuda is not as much of a trading port as Asetnomara to its south due to its location being less advantageous to traders and incoming visitors. This is offset by it being the primary home port of the Al-Tiban navy and being one of the (allegedly) least assailable cities in Efaanu.
Government
Escuda is ruled by the Regatra of Escuda, overseen by the Amir/Amira of the Pé Norte Amitra.
Defences
The city benefits from the protection of the navy of Al-Tiba, as well as well funded guardsmen and women. But the true protection of the city falls to its allegedly unassailable and un-breachable walls and multi-tiered structure.
Industry & Trade
The city has a healthy ship-building industry due to the presence of the Al-Tiban navy. In addition the city serves as the base of much of the fishing that takes place in the dual-gulf region, and many a fishmonger and fish-trader fill the streets. Whaling is also common in the city.
History
The city was founded for much the same purpose as it's served throughout its time as part of Al-Tiba, as a fortress to guard the Strait from possible naval invasion.
Unlike many Al-Tiban cities however, it did not easily join the Principality during its inception. The city famously held out against Al-Tiban rule for decades until it was brought into the fold by marriage to the then-Grand Prince. When the Grand Prince died and the connection was severed it took an overnight coup of the ruling family to keep the city in order.
Geography
The region around the city is desertous as some of the Ulb Desert bleeds along the coast, but is also much more comfortable than the desert proper due to the presence of the sea breeze.
Natural Resources
The city is well known for its fish, boats, and whale oil/flesh.
