Mernar
The former capital of the Mernite Sovereignty and the Mernite Provinces, Mernar is now The Holy Mernite Sovereignty and serves as the seat of power for the ruling Monarch.
The city name means "Beacon" in Merenese, and it deigns to live up to that name. Its beautiful buildings and towers are well known, and its temples are the envy of the continent (despite being destroyed and rebuilt several times).
The city sits near the source of the Tigban River, which most of the Mernite civilization was originally centered around. Instead of roads the Mernite people mostly relied on the river to travel and trade goods with their civilization. This access allows the Mernite people to quickly transport goods and people from inland Efaanu to the coast to the city of Udkhul to the east and the ocean beyond.
Government
The city is overseen by the ruling Monarch themselves as their specific fief, though the day to day ruling of the city is often handed off to higher ranked members of the Mernite Paladin Order, the Muharib, and the Knights Excellion.
Defences
The city has walls to defend it, but the largest defense it's relied on for generations is the Ulb Desert that surrounds it on all sides. Armies can not camp for long, lest they be starved out. Even finding water is hard, as any force that approached the river is easy prey for the Mernite Navy.
Industry & Trade
Mernar was at one point known for its gunpowder production and craftsmen, but the changes that came with The Realm have left the town to this day sticking to more basic sources of income including trade taxation and general craftsmenship.
History
Mernar is one of the more ancient human cities on Efaanu, with records going back in some cases before the Atkorian Empire.
The Atkorian's made Mernar one of its first conquests, and imbued the population with a love of The Mantle.
After the fall of The Atkorian Empire the region became independent, but like all of Efaanu soon fell to the Carlegnian conquest.
After the fall of the Carlegnian's the region became independent and founded itself as the Mernite Sovereignty and the city flourished from trade from all sides. While the Mernite Sovereignty was constantly under attack from all sides as well the fighting rarely reached the city, until its conquest by The Realm.
It was reconquered some years later by Crusaders and re-established as the capital of the new Holy Mernite Sovereignty.
Architecture
Mernar architecture is known for its unique nature that is a hallmark of the Mernite people.
Geography
Mernar is surrounded on all sides by the Ulb Desert, and sits on a small oasis that sustains the population. The river allows for just enough farming and fishing to maintain the city as well.
