Battle at Tellmenn {Second Battle of Valdenwhik}

The Battle at Tellmenn (or as it was, the Second Battle of Valdenwhik) was a turning point outside the gates of Valdenwhik, the gates to Telamerein and the many nations of humanity. It was the first battle were Amy was brought to the battlefield against the demons.

The Conflict

Prelude

After a devastating defeat and the loss of the city of Glarn, the forces of The Council of Four Kings was forced to retreat to the gate of Valdenwhik. The forces tried to push back Arthon's forces but were unsuccessful to do so (The First Battle of Valdenwhik), suffering again defeat due to Arthon's strategy and tactics. Facing the thought of losing Marlun, the ambassadors of the four nations asked their kings and Nini of Nilaminra to either accept defeat and the demands that Arthon had laid fought (surrendering Marlun completely to Nekuram) or gather together at the gate and rallying the troops to face Arthon's forces again, only this time with the risk of losing everything and allowing the demon forces to gain entrance to the nations of humanity, something that had never happened during the 1000 years of conflict. The only king that answered the rallying request was Wallis Lionhiron while the other two kings sent their elite guards and greatest generals. Nini of Nilaminra though sent fought what was seen as a child, Amy , the girl who was believed to be a prophetic heroine that would face the enemies of mankind and defeat them again. Amy was, in fact, a Renvarian and originally from the Kingdom of Ravero which firstly Ravero's ambassador objected against but since Amy and her friends had been moved to be checked for divinity and destiny to Nilaminra, she was to be representative of Nilaminra. To skip the debate, King Wallis suggested that Amy was to be both Nilaminra's representative and Ravero's guardian (which made here a detachment to a Renvarian regiment). The Nini accepted this and during Marem 10:th to 15:th, the forces gathered at the gates.
Meanwhile, Arthon faced opposition once again in Nekuram which forced him to go back and for a month stall the siege of Valdenwhik. After settling his business in Nekuram, Arthon focused his effort in building fortifications on the outskirts of the walls and out of range from the great ballistas and two trebuchets that were mounted on the walls. Although Arthon knew that it would be impossible for him to force his enemies out and for him to win the siege with his current forces, he had a strategy of closing off Marlun from mankind and thus creating a standstill, forcing a ceasefire and eventual peace agreement, even if he was not to see it himself. He was sure about this plan due to the fact that humanity was not as united as Nekuram but in small and large nations that were at odds with each other. It was also why, Arthon had speculated, the War for Marlun never was finished, due to humanity constantly struggling with itself..

Deployment

After Arthon had returned and seen what the Humans were doing, he prepared his officers for a strong defence and a hammer-and-anvil-tactic. With a force of over 100 000 Demons, he formed a plan around several fort defensive structures while a cavalry and chariot-tank unit were waiting in ambush positions to the south and south-east. The Nekurii generals and officers were not very optimistic about his plan due to the fact that they were seeing themselves as having the upper hand against the Humans. By Marem the 20:th the forts were finished and other defensive emplacements as well. Arthon placed himself in the centre of the nine forts that had been created while other generals were placed in charge of the other forts and deployed troops, including the charioteers and cavalry general.
The forces of The Council of Four Kings were not too much prepared for making an assault at the scale that was needed and seeing Arthon's fort formation made the officers uneasy. The alliance's marshall Frust decided to make use of the Leoners from Leonerd to build small and quickly moveable ballista units that would be able to use fire ammunition. This was hastily done by dismantling several of the wall defences on Valdenwhik, leaving the wall much more vulnerable than it would be if they would lose. It was after these were done 19:th Marem that Frust finalizes the deployments all of the units, including his king and the king of Ravero himself Wallis Lionhiron. With all of that completed Frust gave the order to attack the day after.

Conditions

There were optimal conditions for an attack, no whether were in the way, all was cloudy and the chances of rain were minimal. The ground was in the best of conditions since it was dry and not muddy at all.

Outcome

As the Council was victorious, Arthon's forces and all forward-positioned forces were forced to withdraw back to Glarn. Despite this, Arthon was content on the victory, having not realized that the enemy was following with all haste after the victory. Arthon would eventually understand this and sacrifice a cavalry unit unbeknownst to its commander. Arthon and most of the forces got back to Glarn and begun to prepare the defences of Glarn for a short term siege, all according to Arthon's plans it seemed like...
The Council's forces begun a pursuit of the Nukurii forces so to end the conflict with haste. Their losses didn't mirror what Arthon lost but was not yet devastating.
  • The King of Ravero decided to take up residence for a short time in Valdenwhik as a morale-boosting effort, having one of the most important countries kings available at all times.
  • Frust was slightly injured but decided to move forward with his troops, eventually routing and destroying a cavalry diversion unit himself with 50 knights.
  • Amy had done her duty perfectly according to officers but also done a lot of damage to the enemies. Arthon, who personally faced her and her group of friends, retreated after they fought.
