History
Ibau Period - ME X - ME 1600
- The goddess Izayama is born when the night sky is wounded by a passing star, and bleeds into the ocean. The land itself is Her twin. Conjoined at birth.
- Period of early human settlement from the East. Cains full of bones and simple pottery can still be found in the river valley of what is now known as the Shinzen subcontinent. The curses placed upon these sites are not fully understood, but remain dangerous.
- One day, Izayama breaks free of Her brother Tsuchikyo, the Earth. Where they are separated, the Immortal Mountain rises from Tsuchikyo, while from His sister, blood spills forth, becoming a horde of gods and spirits. With her newfound freedom, Izayama marches across the land, laying waste to mortal-kind.
- Dragons regarded mortal races as beneath consideration, warring amongst themselves for dominance.
- Allied with the dragon Alduin, a dragonborn called Hanamaru defeats the Izayama, binding her to the northern mountains.
- Hanamaru retires to the Immortal Mountain, his three daughters are trained by Alduin in the way of dragons and would go on to conquer the Three Lands of Akavir, founding the Circle Dynasty.
Ennoku Period - ME 1600 - ME 500
- Alduin, infected by the darkness of Izayama, is consumed by a hunger he cannot control. He betrays and eats one of Hanamaru's daughters. Absorbing her mortal ambition, he brings the other Dovah under his control, directing them to subjucate the mortal races. Their reign of terror lasts years, but the remaining daughters rally their kingdoms and drive the dragons north, into the wastelands of Izayama's banishment.
- The Three Kingdoms rule each of the subcontinents of Akavir for 1100 years.
- A princess of the Eastern Kingdom marries a prince of a vast kingdom far to the east. Together, they overthrow their respective kingdoms, and conquer those of their rivals, beginning the Yoku Dynasty
Yokudaima Period - ME 500 - 1E 376
- For the first 500 years, the capital of this new Empire sits in Akavir, bringing great wealth and influence to the continent.
- A civil war ended in the sacking of the capital and the execution of the Imperial family. The Yoku Dynasty continues through a cousin loyal to the East, who moves the capital outside the continent.
- The following 300 years sees a strong decline in Akavir, as the Akaviri nations are left an afterthought of the bloated Empire. Ruled in name only, numerous warlords and petty kingdoms rise and fall during this period.
- Dragons return, alongside the Kamal, snow-demons from the north whose invasions are as frequent as the winters. They manage to establish a firm foothold in the Northern Continent, driving out all competition.
- The Tsaesci spread their beliefs to the kingdoms, creating a unified Akaviri identity independent of race or region.
- The Empire is abolished when the Emperor is taken hostage by warlords in the East. The people of Akavir take advantage of the chaos by seceding. The continent is ruptured into numerous warring states.
Warring States Period - 1E 376 - 1E 600
- The scourge of dragons and the constant state of war in the continent lead to the mass adoption of the Tsaesci religion.
- In time, the states are united into the Tsaesci Empire
Tsaesci Period - 1E 600 - 2E 500
- The Tsaesci Empire rules the continent for millennia. Constant clashing with the Kamal and the dovah keeps its power in check, as does a predictable cycle of disasters and reconstruction.
- The old Akaviri culture is systematically snuffed out, in favor of the new Tsaesci orthodoxy. Human ethnicities see gradual decline as the reptillian Dzai-Xi race becomes dominant in the continent.
- The Dovah splinter. Some remain allied to the Kamal. Others seek a different path in the mountains of the Eastern Continent.
- A Po'tun monk called Tosh Raka acheives apotheosis, transforming himself into a new kind of dragon. He founds the Empire of Ka Po'Tun, renaming the Eastern continent Ka'Rakaivir.
Xiansei Period - 2E 500 - Present
- The Tsaesci Empire fails to halt the expansion of Ka Po'Tun. The whole continent goes to war over its fate, ending in its collapse.
- From its ashes, the Shinzeni Autocracy rises in the West. This "second warring states period" persists into the modern day with the continent divided between four major religions: The Tsaesci, the Ka Po'Tun, the Kamal, and the Tang Mo.
