Talos

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Talos are known for having some features made out of pure metal. Large, ramlike horns rest on their heads, and their hands are encased in almost gauntlet-like plates of metal. These features are usually made of base metals, for example copper, iron or zinc. However, precious variants do exist, and are present in families of high status or magical ability.

Biological Traits

Variants of Talos are characterized by their different types of metal. For example, copper Talos have curlier horns and a stronger immune system, while iron Talos have larger, more crescentlike horns and strong, durable hands. All Talos with noble metals have very high magical conductivity and proficiency, as a result of their precious metal parts. Another trait that varies with their metal type is a Talos' elemental alignment. Of course, they are an inherently Steel-adjacent species, but secondary alignments are created through different types of metals. For example, Golden Talos are very proficient with Lightning magic, and Copper Talos can make more use of Water energy than other variants.

Behaviour

The Talos, as a species, value honor above all else. They have a very strict code, and nearly every member of their population is known to create reliable bonds and alliances, seldom violating one's trust. They also expect this from other species, however, and often feel very offended if their trust is violated. This has led to many conflicts in the past, most of which have been resolved, but one still remains.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Talos can be found in areas where high concentrations of some metals can be found. Most of the Talos population inhabited the Nol Ridge before leaving the mountains due to issues with the golems. Having spread out across the continent away from ferrous metals, over time the population's diversity grew thanks to places with large veins of ore, like Arode Desert's copper and gold mines.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Much like the Voltens, many Talos depend on mechanical tech, rather than the magical. However, there is somewhat of a divide, as a majority of the noble metal Talos utilize their magical abilities much more than the ferrous/base variants.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Talos masks commonly cover either the entire left or right half of one's face, and are gilded with the same metal that the wearer's features are made from. These half-masks have very simplistic shapes with more focus on the patterns that adorn them.

Historical Figures

A great Talos inventor that lived around 500 years ago played a major role in the invention of Aeterna City's network of gears and cogwheels. He was also rumored to have made many other, fantastical creations, such as a supposed quarrying machine that supplied all the materials used in the creation of several cities.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The most notable of Talos relations takes the form of a territorital dispute between the Iron Talos in the Nol Ridge and the Eluroc Golems. On the flip side of things, the Aeternean Copper Talos have a very positive relationship with the Voltens in the same location. The two parties compose the majority of the Aeterna Kingdom, and lead in many technological advancements.
