The Solink Expanse

Geography

In stark contrast to the mountainous region that surrounds it, the Solink Expanse is a wide, flat plain in the western half of the Aeterna archipelago. Two notable features populate the region: Large geysers that dot the expanse, and monolithic formations that are known to attract lightning. Hot springs that accompany the geysers are common, and provide a source of water for nearby life and settlements.

Localized Phenomena

What makes the region unique in weather is the violent thunderstorms the plains often experience. These storms are incredibly charged and can last for up to 2 hours, causing a copious amount of lightning strikes around the area.

Climate

Solink mimics the climate of a savanna, with average warm temperatures and a distinct wet season. As mentioned before, storms are incredibly common in the region, but don't always provide rainfall during the dry seasons.

Natural Resources

Wheat is plentiful in the fields, though it is the only other notable plant besides the grasses and shrubs in the area. Underground, a stone known as Fulminite began to form after milennia of exposure to intense charge and Lightning magic. Common ores include copper, zinc, naturally occurring brass, and Elemental Bronze.

History

The Solink Expanse is known througout the world for its frequent storms and the lightning that they bring. Even still, the tempests that plague the region now are not as strong as they once were. Centuries ago, electricity and flashing storms ravaged the plains of Solink, making the area almost uninhabitable by even resilient Voltens. However, by the hand of one of the greatest Lightning elementalists, the storms that made the expanse so dangerous were dispersed, lowering them to the degree that is seen today. Unfortunately, the dissolution of the massive tempest caused unstable energy to disperse across the continent, spreading dangerous weather all throughout Aeterna.
