Voltens

Basic Information

Anatomy

Voltens are human with antlers and sharp, jagged claws. Their antlers resemble that of a stag's, and grow proportionally to their power. The claws of a volten can get very sharp, and aren't retractable, leading to many learning at a young age to keep their claws from harming anyone. An interesting quality of a volten's bones are their electric conductivity, which makes them proficient at channeling Lightning magic.

Behaviour

Many voltens are constantly energetic and high-key, a result of their nonstop passive absorption of nearby voltage. However, they burn out just as easily when out of energy, not unlike a caffeine crash. Perky and animated personalities are hard on some voltens that can't control how they spend their overflowing stores of energy, leading to quite a few people of their population being frazzled disasters with too much energy.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As a part of their natural affinity for electricity, voltens are able to seek out and gauge levels of current running through objects. This sense isn't even actively called upon, many voltens literally feel the charge in the air while near an electrical object or active circuit.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

The voltens have access to many electrical mechanisms that they are able to charge and power, having harnessed a chaotic element that has caused trouble for every other sapient species. However, their industry in machinery does not make them more advanced. In focusing most of their advancement and research into Lightning magic, their proficiency with other elements has become much lower than that of, for example, the avians.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

A popular convention of volten masks is the portrayal of extreme or dramatized expressions, whether it be the full face or just the mouth. This results in many masks resembling comedy or tragedy masks. For coloration, metallic pigments and paints are used to fully or half cover the mask for a half-and-half kind of look.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Voltens have a strong alliance formed with the talos, partially out of the sheer compatability towards metals and electricity, but also in interest of innovation in the city of Aeterna. This alliance also creates tension towards the golems, who are locked in unsteady neutrality with the talos.
