Morvana Menagerie

I heard the tales of the Morvana Menagerie when I was but a child. I never thought someone would try and recreate it...
— Ser Gwyadon Vance

The Morvana Menagerie (based on the elvish morvana: nourishment) is a tale often told to children about a set of food that was brought to life by a powerful magic user.

The Tale

One day the legendary figure Vysill Trelane wandered into the Great Lambor Forest. Upon entering they discovered a small cave which had dancing creatures made of soft materials. The creatures wouldn't form normal words but instead small gurgles. After a few moments a whisper would come from the cave telling Vysill to enter into the cave and eat all that they can. Vysill made an agreement with the creatures to return tomorrow morning and eat then. The voice agreed and let the person go.   The next morning, Vysill returned prepared for a great meal, only to find the creatures gone, replaced by a solitary figure at a table. The figure introduced themself as Mo Chi, declaring their magical powers and showed the ability to transform a piece of food into a small flying creature resembling a dragon. Vysill was impressed and asked what it would take for them to learn the magical ability, Mo Chi offered them a chance to learn if they would gather a special herb from far away.

After a travel which has been documented in other stories, Vysill returned with the herb and found that the individual was still there, seemingly unmoved since the moment they left. Mo Chi took the herb and used it to start creating a concoction. Once brewed, this concoction was given to Vysill who was told to drink it to retain all the power they wanted. As soon as the concotion hit their lips Vysill was transformed into a dragon-esque creature made of a strange dough-like substance. In that moment Mo Chi vanished.   For several years Vysill would traverse the countryside in this new form eventually residing in a home where they would slowly grow in size to fit the container it would stay in. Eventually the creature that was Vysill was attacked by a gallant knight and his band of sellswords. They would slolwy cut up at the creature, however its small pieces were able to change into a small forms of the draconic figure that Vysill now resembled. This small collection of creatures are told to still travel across the land, able to transform into a collective of strange creatures that are made of different types of food, able to attract hungry children and creatures before they attack.

Creatures

While there have been few confirmed sightings of the creatures made of mochi, the few have be compiled to learn more about the creatures generally and the difference between their forms.   All creatures in the Morvana Menagerie seem to be able to move and shift, stretching their forms to fit in any gap and space they can. Additionally, the creatures are known for being sticky when touched, resulting in the capture of many individuals.

Jelly Dragon

The original form of the Morvana Menagerie, the Jelly Dragon is able to fly and move around at a quick speed from its lithe form. While other dragons breath elemental nature, Jelly Dragons shoot a sticky substance that restrains their foes.

Uni-Corn

Similar in form to a unicorn, the Uni-Corn is made of sweetcorn and other maize. Their horn is often feared because of its sharpeness and poisonous pellets that remain within foes.

Dough Dog

Often smaller than the rest of the creatures, the Dough Dog resembles a common dog with strange tendrils that allow them to thwack various opponents.

This is so fun! I love the stickiness and their propensity to fill in space. Very unique qualities to very unique creatures.
