History of Norden

Planet earth. Its leaders, continents and countries. Its people. How would it adjust, if one peculiar thing changed?    One day, a pandemic struck. The Curse virus as it was called by the common man, was a latent infection that stemmed from a seasonal flu which introduced itself nine years earlier. This specific flu resided latently in its host and reactivated years later, bringing back the old virus symptoms more aggressively than earlier. People's bodies were completely destroyed as their organs shut down one after the other. Humans died with not even a chance to fight for survival. Thankfully, only three months after the first reported case of the Curse virus a vaccine was created. Whoever got the vaccine before their latent infection reactivated would be immune to the fearful virus, although instead get the vaccine’s specific side effect; deafness.    The vaccine was only accessible in a few European and Nordic countries adjacent to Sweden where it was created, resulting in a massive immigration wave to said countries. In order to deal with the aftermath, countries united, ripped up their borders and shared their assets. New nations were founded as a new order of power entered and Norden was created. The new nation of Norden had to systematically change the entirety of the old countries. When no people were able to hear, societal structures that once made sense had to be adjusted to fit the new deaf inhabitants. Norden became a nation the world had never seen before as deafness was the new norm and society orbited around it. From previously being a minority to becoming a majority, the deaf community took over.   By inexplicable reason, a few people were mercied by the vaccine and remained hearing. As years passed, and their genes passed on, the group of hearing people grew bigger. At this point the hearers - as they named themselves - began questioning why the society wasn't adapted for them. By this, the deaf felt threatened by how the hearers demanded societal adjustment and a resistance movement and political faction named the Founders established. At the same pace as the hearers grew in numbers, people joined The Founders.   Today about 20 percent of Nordens habitants are hearers, and the Founders have grown to become the nation's largest political faction. Hate crimes against hearers are increasing at an alarming rate, protests against the government and the Founders occur regularly and Norden has never been this polarised. People are afraid of civil war.
