Xerranna

High Praetor Xerranna Brightstone (a.k.a. Xer)

High Praetor Xerranna Brightstone, also known as Xer, is a renowned figure among the Imperial War Mages and has an intriguing background. She gained fame as one of the heroes of the Mistral Forest conflict and the Tarak offensive, where she played a crucial role in defeating the Molokkian Overlord Dardock the Fiendish.   Xerranna's past is shrouded in mystery. She possesses rare magical abilities as a Sorceress, and even the Scouters who recruited her into the Imperial Arcane Academy of Markovitos were unaware of her magical training and background. Despite her enigmatic origins, the headmaster eagerly accepted her into the academy, recognizing the value of having a Sorceress among their ranks. Xerranna's magical skills were refined during her time at the academy, and the faculty eagerly studied her unique powers.   Her campaigns as a War Mage were marked by flawless success, as she demonstrated raw destructive power. However, as conflicts in the northern borders subsided, Xerranna felt a lack of purpose. It was during this time that she was unexpectedly assigned to the Council of the Arcane Ministry.   With her transition from warfare to politics, Xerranna's battles took on a different form. Despite being an unknown outcast in the past, she rose to become a Praetor and the head of the mystics. Xerranna is a constant overachiever, maintaining a quiet and reserved demeanor that belies her terrifying magical capabilities. Unlike other mages who rely on spell books or extraplanar pacts, she draws her magic from an inner well of power.   During her tenure on the council, Xerranna deftly outmaneuvered opponents who sought to undo her and bring disgrace upon her name, as some considered her an aberration unfit for the council's seat. However, her fortunes changed when the Emperor assigned her a seemingly impossible task. To the Elders' surprise, she succeeded with the help of another hero, Narrox of Swamburgh. Together, they destroyed the Molokkian leadership, disrupted their forces, and secured the Emperor's legacy for the Prince.   This resounding success silenced further opposition from the Elders and solidified Xerranna's position as Praetor, the head of the Imperial War Mages.   During the campaign, Xerranna's secret was unveiled by Narrox, who discovered her true identity. As they fought side by side, their bond deepened, and they eventually fell in love. Following the campaign and Xerranna's subsequent appointment as Praetor, they married.   Despite their positions of power, Xerranna and Narrox live simple and humble lives. They have four children: Narinne, Sord, Xabine, and Zhedd. Although Xerranna's official duties reside in the capital, Akilla, she resides with her family in Swamburgh. To commute, she employs teleportation, covering the vast distance in an instant. Xerranna owns her private tower outside Swamburgh, situated in the West of the town, in the southern part of Mirkwood.   Physically, Xerranna appears as a normal adult human with timeless beauty. She is tall and fair-skinned, possessing beautifully chiseled features, high cheekbones, ample lips, and long, dark raven hair that some argue appears dark blue, purple, or red. However, her most captivating feature lies in her eyes, which seem to change colors and hold an alluring charm. Observant individuals may notice that she possesses infernal blood, making her a Tiefling—a rare race in Norewald. Tieflings are regarded as "Hellkissed" by the Arganians, as the presence of Celestials, Infernals, and even Tieflings themselves is generally considered mythical.   Xerranna's illusion magic is innate and was granted to her through a wish from her ring of three wishes. She is even considering using one of the ring's charges to gain the ability to transform into a human at will. While in her true form, Xerranna reveals her tall stature, faintly purple-hued skin with golden specks, red glowing eyes, robust build, short fangs, and impressive, powerful dark feathery wings that grant her the ability to fly. However, unlike most Hellkissed, she lacks a prehensile tail due to her unique heritage.   As for her education, Xerranna is a product of the esteemed Markovitos, the Imperial College of the Arcane Arts, which is the only grand Arcane college in Argania. Despite starting her magical education later than most candidates, she proved her exceptional talents and quickly became one of the most powerful individuals in the college's history. Her immense magical powers and the overflow of magical energies from within her, which she struggled to control, were honed and refined by the arcane masters. Xerranna found solace in Markovitos, considering it her home and eagerly absorbing all the lessons the school had to offer.   In terms of employment, Xerranna holds numerous esteemed positions in society. As the Praetor, she leads the Imperial War Mages and holds a seat as a Junior Grand Magi on the Imperial Council of Mages. Additionally, she is an honorary member of the Swamburgh City Council, the official Muse of the Swamburgh City Militia, an event master at Markovitos College of Arcane Arts, and co-founder of the adventuring party known as The Greymalkins, where her husband Narrox serves as the group leader.   Xerranna's accomplishments and achievements are impressive. Despite starting her education at an older age, she emerged as one of the most powerful spellcasters in Markovitos' history. Since joining the War Mages, she has achieved a 100% success rate in every battle she was deployed to. Xerranna is also a leading researcher in counter magic and anti-magic warfare. Her exceptional abilities and achievements earned her the distinction of being the fastest accepted member of the council of elders and the youngest sitting member in the organization's history, the Imperial Council of Mages. Her heroism and strategic brilliance played pivotal roles in the Mistral Forest conflict and the Tarak offensive, cementing her legacy.   While Xerranna acknowledges that she may not be the most intellectual of the arcane circle, she possesses wisdom and cunning. She is acutely aware that she may be outsmarted but refuses to be outmaneuvered. Xerranna's brilliance as a tactician allows her to formulate plans quickly and think several steps ahead, often with multiple backup plans in place. In the Empire's war ministry, there is a saying that if Xerranna runs out of options, the operation is doomed to fail.   In terms of morality and philosophy, Xerranna is generally gracious and kind. She readily provides valuable advice to her juniors and subordinates and genuinely cares for those around her. She believes in justice and the idea that everyone eventually receives what they deserve. However, Xerranna shows no mercy to those who would harm her family or attempt to uncover her true identity. She dispatches them swiftly, and the level of brutality depends on the ire she feels towards them. Xerranna can be exceptionally cruel to her enemies.   Xerranna's social circle is extensive, and she is known far and wide. However, she has few friends and even fewer individuals she looks up to. Currently, she does not worship any deities, but she believes in their existence and is open to exploring monotheistic faiths, an idea she discovered through her eldest son.   In social settings, Xerranna's refined manners and courtly demeanor command respect from nobles and commoners alike. She possesses charm, a stately posture, and humble conduct in her interactions. Her voice is always soft-spoken, with a silky quality that soothes and calms those around her. While she rarely seeks flattery, her fair and honest opinions are highly regarded. Xerranna points out the positives in others and uses positive remarks to highlight opportunities for individuals' growth. In confrontations, her quick wit and sharp tongue systematically dismantle her enemies. She excels at chiding and goading to infuriate and fluster opponents, aiming to control the banter and manipulate their emotions. She can also use the inflection of her voice to instill fear or intimidate, all while maintaining her calm and polite tone.   As for Xerranna's financial state, she has amassed a small fortune through compensation for her work in the empire, earnings from war booty, and loot acquired during her adventures. She personally owns various lands throughout the empire, including farms, manors, and research towers. Estimates suggest that her monetary assets exceed a few million gold pieces.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Xerranna's motivation is driven by her obsession with uncovering more about her heritage and true parents. She harbors a fear that their infernal influence may have the potential to control her and drive her towards evil. This intense curiosity fuels her research and pursuit of power within the arcane arts. As her obsession deepens, Xerranna becomes determined to explore the possibility that her heritage lies in "Hellspace," the realm of the Nine Hells or Baator. To this end, she implores her eldest son, Sord, to assist her in discovering a way to open portals to other dimensions using ancient Omnimian and Maxilian technology. Xerranna hypothesizes that by venturing into Hellspace, she may uncover the origins of her infernal bloodline and gain further insight into her own identity. This quest for knowledge and understanding drives her relentless pursuit of the arcane.   In addition to her exploration of her heritage, Xerranna directs her obsession towards her son, Sord, who possesses the unique ability of anti-magic. Intrigued by this rare and unexplored phenomenon, she conducts experiments on Sord to better understand the extent and properties of his anti-magic abilities. Anti-magic, which is largely unknown and elusive in its true form, intrigues Xerranna, as it challenges the very fabric of magic itself. Through her research and experiments, she hopes to uncover the secrets and potential applications of anti-magic, pushing the boundaries of magical understanding.   These dual obsessions drive Xerranna's relentless pursuit of knowledge, power, and self-discovery, as she seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding her heritage and the enigmatic nature of anti-magic.
