Changes from D&D 5e
EverQuest, the game Norrath comes from, is not connected to any edition of Dungeons & Dragons, but they share very similar origins. There was even an EverQuest tabletop RPG where much of the lore on this site comes from. This version of Norrath, however, was designed to be a setting for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, and as a result, there have been some modifications to both systems to make it fit. Mechanically, there are as few changes as possible to keep the gameplay intact, but thematically some things have had to change. When a change is needed to fit something in, the effort was made to have it stay as close to the D&D source as possible with as few changes as possible to it and Norrath to make it work. Below is a non-comprehensive list of changes that will constantly be updated as the world is fleshed out.
Race Alterations
All races ported over from D&D have had their origins changed to fit the setting, but they should still be recognizable.- Triton are known as Kedge.
- Lizardfolk are known as Iksar.
- D&D's Yuan-ti are known as Shissar.
- A good-aligned and more intelligent variant of the Bullywug are known as Froglok. D&D Bullywug still exist.
- D&D's Kobold race as replaced EverQuest's traditional Kobold race with some lore changes.
- Drow are officially referred to as Dark Elves or Teir'Dal, but drow is a term that is used.
- D&D's Goliaths have replaced EverQuest's barbarian race.
- D&D's driders are known as Drachnids.
- D&D's Leonin are known as Vah'Shir.
Spell Alterations
- Druids and wizards have had a 5th-level spell added to their spell lists that allows teleportation to various areas across Norrath. The spells are Circles of Norrath and Translocation respectively.
- 2nd-level spellĀ Voltaic Rift added to artificer, sorcerer, and wizard spell lists.
World Alterations
- The Inner and Outer Planes have been replaced with the Planes of Power. The Transitive Planes (Astral and Ethereal) remain unchanged.
Would the shadar-kai be substituted by the akhevas? I'm not an Everquest player but I am enjoying the world very much.
