Vampire
Y'Dal
Vampires are said to have been created by Innoruuk sometime during the Elder Age. When he was approached by one of the very first Elves, Mayong Mistmoore, he lept at the opportunity to corrupt one of Tunare's beloved races. Using the Ewer of Sul'Dae, he twisted and corrupted Mayong into the first Y'Dal, or vampire. Though he would steal Elves from Norrath to create a whole race of vampires, none would be as successful as their progenitor. Each generation became more perverted and a slave to their bloodlust.
Norrath
Awakened to an endless night, vampires hunger for the life they have lost and sate that hunger by drinking the blood of the living. Vampires abhor sunlight, for its touch burns them. They never cast shadows or reflections, and any vampire wishing to move unnoticed among the living keeps to the darkness and far from reflective surfaces. Whether or not a vampire retains any memories from its former life, its emotional attachments wither as once-pure feelings become twisted by undeath. Love turns into hungry obsession, while friendship becomes bitter jealousy. In place of emotion, vampires pursue physical symbols of what they crave, so that a vampire seeking love might fixate on a young beauty. A child might become an object of fascination for a vampire obsessed with youth and potential. Others surround themselves with art, books, or sinister items such as torture devices or trophies from creatures they have killed. Most of a vampire's victims become vampire spawn, ravenous creatures with a vampire's hunger for blood, but under the control of the vampire that created them. If a true vampire allows a spawn to draw blood from its own body, the spawn transforms into a true vampire no longer under its master's control. Few vampires are willing to relinquish their control in this manner. Vampire spawn become free-willed when their creator dies. Every vampire remains bound to its coffin, crypt, or grave site, where it must rest by day. If a vampire didn't receive a formal burial, it must lie beneath a foot of earth at the place of its transition to undeath. A vampire can move its place of burial by transporting its coffin or a significant amount of grave dirt to another location. Some vampires set up multiple resting places this way. These resting places are kept secret, often even from other vampires, as they are most vulnerable during their slumber.Luclin
The vampires of Luclin differ in appearance from their namesakes on Norrath, resembling pale-skinned Humans rather than sallow, dark Elves. Despite their physical differences, Luclin vampires share their gruesome dietary habits with the counterparts of Norrath, and are equally malevolent and deadly. The darkness of Luclin's night side seems made for the vampires. They are vulnerable to daylight and it has been theorized that if they were taken to a world with a normal day-night cycle, vampires would have to sleep in shadow during daylight hours. On the dark side of the moon, however, there are no such problems and the vampires seem able to stay awake and alert at all hours. The first Luclin vampires were encountered by merchants from Katta Castellum, who reported that the creatures wore the garb of Shadow Haven merchants, suggesting that they had once been Humans. Since then, this theory of the creatures' origin has been confirmed, given that several individuals slain by vampires are known to have risen as undead and joined the Coterie of the Eternal Night. Dedicated foes of both the Kattan Loyalists and the Vah'Shir, these creatures now infest the Tenebrous Mountains and nearby regions, and have begun to move into the Umbral Plains. Old Loyalist fortresses have been taken over by the vampires, and the Concilium Universus has all but ceded control of the region to the bloodsuckers. In the gloom of Luclin's dark side, vampires appear at first to be normal humans, if somewhat pale-skinned. Their loping, bent gait can be disguised somewhat, allowing many vampires to pass undetected even in the teeming streets of Katta Castellum. vampire infiltrators are a constant threat in the city, and rumor claims that some particularly human-appearing vampires have actually risen to high rank. Unlike their Norrathian counterparts, no one knows where the first vampires on Luclin came from. Some have speculated that exposure to Akheva blood may turn ordinary mortals into vampires, and that more blood can transform normal vampires into the powerful winged variety known as vampires volatilis. Others have said that Luclin herself brought the curse from Norrath to punish and plague the remnants of the Combine Empire. The bite of a vampire can also transform a mortal, but so far all documented vampire encounters have been with human-seeming undead. Rumors of other types of vampire abound, however, including Vah'Shir, Elven, Dwarven, and even Halfling vampires, each type with its own unique powers and character. These rumors so far remain unconfirmed.
