The party decides to spend their downtime clearing out the spider nest the stumbled upon several weeks ago, but it's not quite as they remember.
Roswyn finally completes her puzzle box.
November 1st - November 6th
The party travels uneventfully along the Faydark Road through the
Greater Faydark toward the spider nest.
November 7th
The party delves back into the spider nest, where they clear out dozens of various spiders that are barely a match for them at this point. After several hours of investigation and extermination, the party finally makes it to the center of the nest once more. This time, however, they are greeted by several
Drachnids; large half-elf and half-spider monstrosities. They have all the ferocity of their spider brethren with the intelligence of the elves. During the tense combat,
Ellie recalls something unsettling from her studies on
Luclin:
Drachnids were created by
Mayong Mistmoore long ago to serve as spies on the continent of
Kunark. They put up a formidable attack, until
Carlos polymorphs
Roswyn into a T-Rex. At that point, she goes on a tear through the spider
Elf monstrosities and the battle ends quickly. The party decides to spare and restrain one
Drachnid for questioning. The
Drachnids have scale armor fused to their bodies, but it is very high quality, as are their weapons. The party takes this time to remove as many scales as they can to take back to
Kelethin.
After the party makes their way back to the surface,
Roswyn continues fiddling with the puzzle box she purchased a month ago in
Felwithe. This time it locks its configuration and thrums until it cracks open to reveal a familiar face:
Esmerae the Faerie Queen. However,
Esmerae seems to have no memory of ever meeting them, and actually suspects that they are the ones who trapped her inside the puzzle box. After a moment to gather her thoughts,
Esmerae remembers that it was actually Mayong who trapped her nearly a hundred years ago. As a token of gratitude,
Esmerae summons a beautiful pegasus clad in golden plate armor, who she calls
Equestrielle, and commands it to serve Roswyn until otherwise commanded by
Esmerae. Before the party can even react,
Esmerae vanishes. The party stands around shocked for a moment before deciding that Roswyn should ride
Equestrielle back to
Kelethin with the
Drachnid prisoner and the party will meet her there.
