Brode

General, later: King Broderic (a.k.a. Brode, Brodie)

Brode is the second-born child of the King of Vrykron Kingdom who was supposed to take the throne after his older brother's murder (or health-related death, as it was framed in public) but fled from the responsibility by escaping in the middle of the night hidden in non-identifiable armour from one of the guard he lead and fleeing to the non-human continent where he starts to work as a mercenary in the anonimity of the lush forests. 
After joining the Sovereign Shadows and returning to his homeland with the goal of disabling the ruling king, his nephew Theo III., and more importantly the regent council ruling the land, Brode faces the fact that his running away from responsibility has not made that responsibility disappear but rather resulted in someone else, someone far younger and less trained for it, having to bear the burden of that responsibility in his stead.
Brode takes back the throne, acknowledges his responsibility, and relieves his nephew from the burden, coming to terms with the fact that being a mature adult requires duties one might not feel ready for, but needs to face anyway.

Brode has been growing up with clear expectations about his masculinity and having a male presentation, and while he never doubts his gender, he is shown among the Sovereign Shadows that he can braid his hair without having to feel as a woman, and he starts to enjoy wearing some finer jewellery and letting his friends braid his hair.

Sexuality

Brode is asexual, he doesn't care for sex but does enjoy some romance. He has never cared for it either, but being a royal and later a solitary mercenary, it has never come up as a problem in his life.

Brode as a royal received the best private tutoring he could hope for alongside his older brother.
