History

In the aftermath of the fall, the guilds of Novus, which predated the fall, sought to fill the power vacuum, petitioning the newly formed Brass Ring for ruling body powers. As there were numerous guilds, each with different factions, ideals, and motivations, it was clear that allowing such a proposal would lead to deadlocked councils. On the other hand, it could leave the guilds with far too much power, should they unite in purpose. The solution was to have the guilds work together to put forward a single candidate to represent the guilds and the workers they represented.

It did not eliminate all problems, leading to problems where workers felt their concerns were unheard. Rebellion amongst Novus's working class threatened to upend the already tenuous balance in the city. The position was altered, forcing the elected official to either forgo their guild membership during the duration of their rule. It also provided no guild members access to instant and free membership in the guild of their profession.

These changes have largely worked to keep the position focus on the workers of Novus. The Ring of Ironworks began to shift towards a position of expertise on Novus as the machine itself, and became less about guild politics. More often than not, the postion weighs Brass Ring deliberations against what would be best for the city of Novus (not necessarily her people).

The Ring of Ironworks now stands for all notions of machinery and industry in Novus.
