Haaktura

The towering, ferocious pachyderms who dwell atop the highest summits as unconquerable warriors

Base Racial Traits

Ability Score Modifiers: (+4 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom): Haaktura are towering, monolithic creatures who are exceptionally hardy and naturally smart and wise.   Size: Haaktura are large-sized creatures, and gain all the corresponding bonuses and penalties.   Type: Haaktura are monstrous humanoids with the Haakturi subtype.   Speed: Haaktura have a base land speed of 30ft.   Vision: Haaktura possess enhanced low-light vision, allowing them to see 4x as far as humans in conditions of low-light.   Languages: Haaktura begin play speaking the Regional Language that best suits their origins(See Languages of Numiastra), and Haakturan. Haaktura with high INT can select from Chotaran, Bhaduran, Tiwanga, Low Ironite, Terran, and Sylvan as Bonus Languages.   Masters of the Mountains: Carving their mountain redoubts with nothing but their bare hands and time, each Haaktura reaches adulthood with at least hundreds of hours spent hardening their fists against mountain rock - as a result, Haaktura can shape natural and worked stone as if it were clay by spending at least one minute in steady concentration repeatedly punching or striking it. Larger pieces of stone may require multiple minutes or hours or days worth of work to mould, GM discretion. Additionally, their unarmed strikes and natural attacks bypass hardness as if they were adamantine, and count as adamantine for overcoming DR.   Sixedge Exploding Palm Strike: Haaktura gain a unique slam attack as a primary natural attack that, when used, allows them to make a slam attack against all creatures and objects in a 15ft radius around them(Rolling an attack against each target seperately) - this attack deals 2d6 points of bludgeoning damage with a x2 multiplier and forces all creatures damaged to succeed at a Reflex Save(Based on the higher of the Haaktura's STR or DEX) or fall prone. Non-restrained allies of the Haaktura can use an immediate action to avoid this attack. GM has discretion on what constitutes "Restrained", but in general allies that cannot move freely or which are mentally distracted or subdued cannot avoid the attack.   Meteor Splint: Haakturan legs are so dense that even falls from the highest heights are easily blunted - Haaktura take minimum damage on all fall damage dice. Additionally, Haaktura may calculate their carrying capacity and load based off their CON score rather than their STR if doing so would be beneficial to them, and ignore the usual penalties for being in their medium load.   Remote Hermits: Haaktura are naturally familiar with life in the wilderness, and gain a racial +4 to Survival and Acrobatics, and gain both as class skills. Additionally, they can use their prehensile trunks to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action.   Immovable: Haaktura are so weighty and physically dense that they are almost impossible to budge - Haaktura are outright immune to the push and pull UMR, and may as an immediate action when a creature would successfully bull rush or reposition them use their massive weight to invert the effect and instead launch the creature making the attempt back in a straightline path a distance equal to that which they would have forced the Haaktura to move with the Bull Rush or Reposition.   Trumpet of the Silver Summit: As the last in living memory who recall the rites and prayers of the six Sky Gods of Haako-san-tara even after their sacred summits were lost to time and memory, the Haaktura are the final prophets of the lost Ruatiwangan Sky Gods - thanks to this blessing, they can use their Elephantine Trunks to manipulate and generate air and wind currents in their local vicinity or centered on a square they can see equal to 100ft+10ft/HD. Multiple Haaktura working in concert increase the efficacy and area of this trait exponentially. GM is final arbiter on what air-based effects this trait can achieve, but should allow the Haaktura in question to be creative - allowing them to replicate air-based spell effects of a level not exceeding 1/2 their HD, create an amount of air or inclement weather corresponding to their HD, and so on. Especially complicated uses may reasonably prompt a skill check or some kind of test to determine the efficacy of the ability, or make take longer to activate.   Ascetic Constitution: Years or even decades of training shattering mountain rocks with their bare hands and enduring biting winds to temper their minds and discipline their bodies harden the Haaktura and make them hardier than most - Haaktura increase the HD of any class or Racial levels they take by one step to a maximum of a d12, and add 1/2 their Constitution Modifier to their HP each level atop what is normally added. This does not subtract HP if their Constitution Modifier is negative.   Faulty Adaptation: Uniquely and oddly unsuited to life at high altitudes, Haaktura compensate for this by weighing themselves down to allow for their bodies to process oxygen more effectively - so long as a Haaktura is in at least a medium load, they are treated as acclimated to high-altitude environments, can hold their breath for a number of hours equal to 2x their CON score, treat all high and long jumps as running jumps, and alter any effect which would cause them to become fatigued to instead deal an additional 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. Additionally, any effect that would cause exhaustion likewise causes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and leaves them fatigued instead of exhausted. When not in a medium load, however, a Haaktura is permanently sickened. If a Haaktura is suddenly deprived of their medium load unexpectedly, they are nausated for 1 round and sickened thereafter until they re-enter their medium load.   Lost Arts of Haako-san-tara: Masters of the now-defunct battle styles of the six Sky Gods of Haako-san-tara, Haaktura use a unique martial art that allows them short bursts of explosive power in exchange for their bodily health - shattering bones and tearing ligaments for maximal destructive power. As a free action, Haaktura can take automatic, unavoidable damage equal to [2x their HD + their CONMOD](Minimum 5) to activate one of the following effects:
  • Empower a single melee attack made after triggering this ability.
  • Treat all manufactured melee and ranged attacks they make this turn as being adamantine for hardness and DR, and deal treat all such attacks this turn as being empowered towards objects(Excluding Undead and Constructs).
  • Resolve a single melee or ranged attack made after triggering this ability against a target's flat-footed AC.
  • A single hostile creature within 30ft is affected by a static aura that causes them to be struck by a bolt from the Call Lightning spell at no save with a CL equal to the Haaktura's HD if they move from their square via any means until the start of the Haaktura's next turn.
  • Grant themselves an Air Walk effect and increase their movement speed by 30ft for 1 round.
Lords of the Iron Summit: No creature can match the ferocity or power of a Haaktura in the throes of battle-lust - once per combat, Haaktura can stay at 1HP when any source of HP damage would reduce them from above 1HP to below 1HP. Additionally, during combat, if they would be damaged at 1HP or below, they can reduce any instance of HP damage by 100% - this reduces in effectiveness by half each time it is used in the same combat.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Altogether, opportunities to study the anatomy and morphology of the Haaktura have been few and far between - the enormous, powerful pachyderms are already few in number and their status in the lands of the Suzerainty of Ruatiwanga as "Endangered" only adds to the difficulty in studying them. However, from what is easily observable, the Haaktura are massively large humanoids whose size easily dwarfs other humanoids such as the ShersÅ«ra and Humans - they are enormously thick-bodied creatures, possessing two massive arms and two enormous, trunk-like legs that support a truly gigantic torso and head located atop it. They possess huge ears and massive tusks, and possessed of extraordinary weight so incredibly dense that their legs and biology have evolved in countless ways just so they don't crumple under the enormous weight of their own bodies.   Beyond this basic information, information on their internal anatomy is unfortunately scarce as with many races native to the Ruatiwangan Continent thanks to several governmental policies and social programs by the Suzerainty of Ruatiwanga that actively prohibit scientific study of many of its member races without government approval.   Despite this, the little work that has been done paints a truly impressive picture - the Haaktura by all estimations seem to be a race of deep contradictions; wracked with an animalistic fury and primal bloodlust the likes of which few have ever truly seen which is tempered culturally by both their extremely remote locales and hundreds of hours of training in the mountains, disciplining their minds with repeated striking of their fists against mountain stone. As a result, they are not only incredibly hardy creatures, but ferociously hard to kill. Haakturan hands and knuckles are especially dangerous, as each Haaktura spends hundreds of hours by the time they reach adulthood punching mountain stone and shattering boulders in the mountains, enduring biting winds and frigid temperatures all the while as their knuckles and fists split open, bleed, and heal time and again until each Haaktura is strong enough to shatter boulders and shape stone with their bare hands.

Biological Traits

Haakturan bodies are wide and varied things, as Haaktura can vary widely in physical makeup in small and subtle ways depending on the exact heights they are raised at - Haaktura raised at higher altitudes tend to develop wider, bulkier frames as well as wider and sharper tusks, while those raised at lower climates tend to be somewhat thinner and a bit less bulky, though with bigger ears. Most easily distinguishable feature of the Haaktura, however, is the patterns upon their coarse skin - as Haaktura are universally raised and spend hundreds of hours pounding their fists against mountain rock to discipline themselves and to train their bodies and minds, these long hours cause unique biochemical reactions in their skin with the rock dust and minerals in the rocks that color and pigment their skin in odd and notable ways that, essentially, make each Haaktura a living tapestry of markings that tell of which type of rocks they grew up near, as each rock and each mineral stains differently upon their skin.

Genetics and Reproduction

Haakturan reproduction is a great mystery to all but the Haaktura themselves, as few have ever made the attempt to study the lonely, isolated pachyderms and fewer still have ever been granted access to their villages high in the mountains of Ruatiwanga.   They are known to reproduce sexually, with females carrying young to term in unnaturally long pregnancies, but beyond this little is known about them.

Growth Rate & Stages

Precious little is truly known about Haaktura in general, but especially little is known of their reproduction and growth rate - they are known to have unnaturally long pregnancies, but once born Haakturan young are viciously protected by their tribe in a way that has made general study all but impossible.

Ecology and Habitats

Haaktura thrive almost exclusively in the higher climates of the world, though rather ironically they are biologically best suited to life on the plains and savannahs of the world rather than high altitude mountains - this discrepancy has yet to be fully understood, but is largely believed to be the result of a mass migration of the Haakturan people long before recorded history, where their populations fled some manner of extinction event into the Mountains, where the thinner atmosphere and lower air pressure were kinder on their bulkier frames and heavier bodies and allowed them to thrive in ways they couldn't before.   Haaktura, even moreso than the Chotara, are a notoriously reclusive people who are incredibly cagey about allowing outsiders of any kind to visit their home tribes and mountaintop citadels for reasons that remain somewhat of a mystery, as the Haaktura themselves tend to be quite amicable and peaceful by nature and in many ways are the definition of "Gentle Giants".   As best as can be determined, Haaktura life in the mountains is incredibly trying - carving out villages inside high mountain peaks by repeatedly punching and striking the mountain stone to beat and blast it into shape, Haaktura train their fists in such a way to both discipline their mind and carve out homes for themselves or expand existing villages. Despite this, Haaktura welcome adversity in their natural habitat - they seem to welcome and relish in the challenge of adapting to a difficult habitat, and tend to be extremely beneficial to the locale in which they live, building up its ecology and helping foster diverse flora and fauna in a way that does not prove detrimental to the ecosystem for little other reason than doing so keeps them challenged and out of the 'dominant role' in a given area. As they welcome competition and challenge, they often welcome newcomers to their local habitat with a kindness few other species match, competing for resources and survival in good-natured but serious ways that help all who dwell within the region thrive and struggle.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Much like the Chotara, Haaktura are almost exclusively herbivores - their bodies are simply not designed for processing meat, and as such they largely eat plants, berries, ferns, and the like.

Biological Cycle

As a Haaktura ages, their skin tends to lose its pigmentation as they begin to show more and more pinkish coloration across their bodies alongside a host of skeletal and joint-related issues such as arthritis which begin to plague them as they age, their own unnatural size beginning to tear their bodies apart.   Their tusks, as well, grow with Haaktura as they age - growing larger and larger until they eventually level out and stabilize once the Haaktura reaches adulthood.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Haakturan faces are elephantine things, with big floppy ears and massive trunks that hide above and between enormous ivory tusks that, while not often used for violence due to the Haaktura's own immense height as well as cultural taboos, are nonetheless incredibly sharp and beautiful. Their faces are often coarse and rough-hewn like solid chunks of granite, and are incredibly intimidating to any who have not yet spoken to them.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Haaktura are found exclusively within a series of mountain ranges in central and northern Ruatiwanga(Far to the northeast of the Numiastran World Map
Country Map(Countries) Base Map Image
), but in recent years with the peace accords between the Suzerainty of Ruatiwanga and The Iron Empire a handful of Haakturan populations have ventured south into the lands surrounding Numiastra and set up a small series of conclaves in the mountains surrounding the city of Tabwatara on the Northheim Skerry(See above map), marking their first and so far only villages in the lands of Numiastra. Rumors abound of the Haaktura seeking out other high mountain peaks to settle in, but such expeditions have not been confirmed.

Average Intelligence

Haaktura, isolated and spending long years training atop their mountain homes, end up a great deal wiser and smarter than other species as they grow up used to years or decades of introspection, meditation, and study.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Haaktura, while not able to see in the dark per se, have eyes that are incredibly good at amplifying small amounts of light such that, by the light of the moon, Haakturan eyes may as well allow them to see as well as if it were nearly daylight.

Conservation Status
Haaktura are a rare species in their homeland of Ruatiwanga, and are almost completely unheard of within the lands of Numiastra - their low population and the remote mountaintop locales in which they live make them an incredibly rare sight within the Suzerainty alone, to say nothing of the rest of Numiastra. While no measures have been taken to ensure their survival in Numiastra, they are classified as an endangered species within the Suzerainty and efforts are made to protect them from poaching, hunters, and the like.
Average Height
13ft - 17.5ft(3.96m - 5.33m)
Average Weight
9,200lbs - 11,800lbs (4273.05kg - 5352.39kg)
Average Physique
As one may expect from such towering, monolithic creatures, the average physique of the Haaktura is immense - they are towering, muscular, and have skin the texture of sandpaper. Their muscles tend to be thick and their skin tends to be incredibly rough and durable, and their legs especially are incredibly durable and thick to support their massive frames.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Haaktura bodies are naturally tinted in odd and unique ways - their skin often grey, black, or similar greyscale colors while the patterns upon their skin take on a host of unique colors, patterns, lines and more depending on their upbringing; Haaktura each spend their formative years training in their mountaintop villages shattering stone and crushing rock to train their bodies and minds, and their skin reacts in colorful, varied ways to the various types of rock dust, mineral fragments, and other geodes in the rocks they smash that falls upon their skin to create unique tapestries and colors on the skin of each Haaktura which, while each unique to a certain degree, paint a picture of colors and patterns that are recognizable as hailing from areas with certain mineral concentrations, types of rocks, or types of geodes that leave recognizable patterns or colors upon their skin.   Their eyes tend to be hazel, brown, orange, and light green, with other earthen or softly bright colors being common as well.
