Agorak's Gorge
Agorak Gorge is a deep canyon located south of the Gray Hills. The area is controled by the Kingdom of Kavir and is mostly known for Agorak Prison, a hard labor camp encompassing most of the gorge.
Geography
Agorak Gorge is the lowest point in the entire area of the Gray Hills. From inside the valley, the hills appear like mountains, with smooth, vertical cliffs on both sides. The dry climate causes the area of the valley to be searing hot during the days and freezing cold during the nights, not unlike a desert. During the winter almost all the water in the gorge freeze and melt quickly through spring, often result in flash flooding and water contamination due to high concentration of dust and debris caught in the ice.
Fauna & Flora
The area is extremely inhospitable. The ground is hard and dry, giving very less traction for roots. The flora inside the valley is sparse and provide little value even as building materials, since trees rarely grow tall and their wood is brittle. The wildlife of Agorak consist mostly of scavengers, such as vultures, small to medium reptiles and small rodents, mostly living underground.
Natural Resources
The area has the highest concentration of white marble compared to anywhere in the The Empire of Ader controlled territories. Limestone and other useful minerals such as iron are also abundant.
History
The valley is named after Iorund Agorak who conquered the valley during the Elders War. After learning the area was rich with minerals he instructed his son, Bergthor Agorak to mine the marble there for his keep, Bergthor used Elven slaves to construct the quarry and built a wall at the valley entrance. The place later became a private prison called Agorak Prison, though it was officially funded years after the Agorak blood line has faded, leaving only their name as memento of the historical events that took placein the gorge.
