A coin is a token that is used as currency, or money, in trade. Coins are usually made from pieces of metal, with the value depending on size, weight and rarity of their composing materials. Most people use coins for currency in small transactions, such as for daily consumption items, while larger dealings are usually managed through various banking services.

Significance

Coins are used primarily as a mediums of exchange or as legal tender. Most nations and organizations that mint their own coins maintain a standardized weight and dimensions, to be produced in large quantities at certified or sunctioned mints in order to facilitate trade and enable importing and exporting.   Coins can also be used as symbolic tokens, such as gifts, medals, memorabila or collection pieces. Some old or ancient coins that are no longer in circulation have even been sold for above their minted value due to their cultural, historical or even magical significance.
