Cheleya

Cheleya is a human kingdom in the north of Udora. They are a proud people, with a family-centric culture. The kingdom is very isolated and is wary of outsiders. They have a long history of conflict with the tribes of Snow Elves in the Boreal Expanse.

Government

Cheleya is a monarchy, ruled by a monarch, (currently King Raivis), and a class of powerful noble families. The king grows old, nearing his 90th year, and in his old age he has taken a turn for the worse in the eyes of the common folk. He's implemented heavier taxation, is constantly reveling in extravagant feasts and festivals for the lords and ladies of the courts, while the commoners struggle to get by through the harsh winters.

Violet Raven Guild

The Violet Raven Guild, or simply the Ravens, are an organization of rich and powerful nobles, mages and scholars who oversee and control all academic and arcane research and information in Cheleya. They control the learning institutions and libraries, and are very secretive and protective of their information, being very selective with who they allow access and to what.
The guild is almost cult-like in their methods of education, with their students being forced into isolation for their years of study and when they return to the public they are often changed people, and always fiercely loyal to the guild. The guild has a deep interest in the archaeology of the region, and through their influence and ties with the upper nobility, have effective claim to all relics and lost knowledge that is discovered in the plethora of ruins scattered throughout Cheleya and the Boreal Expanse. The seizure of artifacts has given rise to many underground rival organizations of treasure hunters and smugglers who seek to turn a profit by selling relics, often to buyers from outside of the kingdom.

Noble Bloodlines

Cheleya is ruled by several noble families, referred to in their culture as Bloodlines. It is customary to refer to an individual using the term blood(ex. King Raivis of blood Hennigar rides for this keep), and to the family as the line (the line Hennigar will be opposed to this action).

Culture

The people of Cheleya are hardy, strong people. They have a strong cultural pride, and highly value family and helping their community. The isolated nature of Cheleya means that outsiders are somewhat rare, and most people are wary, but will extend hospitality to those in need.

Food and Drink

The Cheleyans make a warm beverage brewed from the flowers of the Hearthbloom, aptly named Hearthbrew. It is a spiced, tea-like drink, often drank with cream or milk. The leaves of the Hearthbloom grant a long lasting warming effect.

Religion

The Cheleyans primarily worship the The Eight Divines, and have for the past couple of a hundred years, though there are many who still worship the gods of Cheleya's old religion: Radeam, god of winter, Yaralon, god of the woodlands, and Axion, god of fire.
